We Hope You....

had a Happy Easter and a good time was had by all. We did. Two of our children, one spouse and two granddaughters assembled here today, along with our out-of-town guest and Mr. K and I. We duplicated our Thanksgiving dinner menu: roast turkey breasts, sausage dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, hot rolls and apple cobbler for dessert. It was a group effort; I did the turkey and dressing and the other stuff was done by our daughter and our guest. It was all good and we ate to much, as usual.

Just a few days ago, we saw the start of the pollen bloom and now we are fully inundated! Our deck furniture is so covered in yellow powder that we can't tell what color it is, and our cars are so full of it that we have to run the wipers before we leave the driveway. I'll be glad when it goes away - and I can stop taking pills and nasal sprays!

On Friday the weather was gorgeous (as it has been for the last 4-5 days) and I sat on the deck reading. I had slipped off my shoes and when I slid my feet back into them and stood up, I felt an immediate stab of pain and a burning sensation on the sole of my left heel. The position of it made it nearly impossible for me to see what it was, although I was certain it was a bee or wasp sting. I thought it would go away soon, so I did nothing. After 30 minutes it was still hurting quite a bit, so I used a mirror to look at the area (my body doesn't move that way anymore - the flexibility I once had is all gone.) There was a black shadow under the skin, which on that part of my foot is as hard as cowhide. (I still need a pedicure). That night I soaked my foot in hot soapy water and worked with tweezers to try and remove whatever was in there, but it wouldn't budge. On Saturday evening, I soaked it again and that time, I plied my toenail clippers to cut through the tough skin and when the black part got visible, I tweezed it out. It was a rose thorn - albeit not a large one. It is amazing how much pain a small, triangular piece of rose cane can cause!

(On Facebook, I was given all sorts of ideas to try and get the offending piece out, ranging from vinegar, to baking soda, Epsom salts and mayonnaise - a most interesting suggestion. I didn't try any of them, but next time I might.) The area is still swollen and painful, but I can feel some improvement, which......

may happen just in time to get my tooth drilled for replacement of an old filling, which I do Monday morning. Then I'll be infirm in my upper regions, as well as my lowest. Actually, I am more worried about the damage to my wallet than I am my tooth. Wish me luck.

On Tuesday, after I do the Flower shuttle, I have to get my car inspected. I am praying that they don't find anything wrong with it (ditto the damage to my wallet) and soon the registration/new plate is due. I have had a vanity plate for years, but now that I am no longer in business for myself, I want to change back to a regular plate. Finding out the process for doing that may take some time and the one good thing about it is that it will cost less than the vanity plates do!

Here's hoping that you had a Good Easter, and it that is not a holiday you celebrate - a good weekend!

The rose thorns can carry a fungus that can be really irritating and can even cause major problems if not treated, so glad you managed to get it out!

and see your doctor if it stays swollen very long!

Rose thorns can be lethal. wise after the event I know but wherever you are it's wise to shake a shoe before putting your foot in.
Glad you had a happy Easter.

sounds like an easter feast! wish i had felt well enough to bake "easter pie," a pasta dish an italian roomie in my 20s used to make. bad fall left me too crippled and in too much pain to stand up more than a few mins. :(

hope that foot is feeling much better soon. it is truly amazing how much something small like a splinter can create havoc.

That Rose Thorn sounds like a ghastly thing....I hope your foot will be all better, very soon, Judy....And I hope the Dentist went well. The cost of everything just seems to be rising no matter what....! I have Anthem Blue Cross as my Secondary Medical Insurance and it is Horribly expensive and just got worse...! I too, have Vanity plates--though they started by calling them "Environmental" Plates--lol---I think they figured more people would spend the Extra Money on "environmental" as opposed to "Vanity"...But indeed, the certainly do cost more...UGH!

I'm glad your Easter was Lovely, Judy....I can hardly believe it is April 5th already.....!

You sound to have had a good Easter! It is a public holiday here today, and daughter and son-in-law came over unexpectedly, bearing a gorgeous orange cake - low fat, gluten free, andabsolutely delicious! Weather has not been at all nice, so we just chatted and enjoyed an adult family time!

Sorry about your bout with the thorn. I frequently find slivers of mulch in my feet/hands from doing the weeding. (And I've tangled with more than one rose thorn!)

Since I was a very young girl, I've had a mental image (along with the internal "ouch" that goes with it) of running bare-footed and stepping on a briar that embeds itself in my foot.
