One is happy as a result of one's own efforts once one knows the necessary ingredients of happiness:

simple tastes, a certain degree of courage, self denial to a point, love of work, and above all, a clear conscience.

George Sand [pen name of Amantine Aurore Lucile Dupin], novelist (1804-1876)

I'm not sure I can say that I have a completely clear conscience, any self-denial or more than an ounce of courage, but I definitely DO have simple tastes and love of (my) work. Maybe two out of five ain't bad?!

The Flower Shuttle meets every Tuesday - you've read about it here before. I cannot sing its praises highly enough, nor can I tell you how much I enjoy being there - surrounded by flowers and by people who enjoy working with them and sharing them with others.

Laziness or maybe spring fever has reared its ugly head here in my home. I have no inclination to do anything about cleaning my house, or deck, or gardening - I haven't even cleaned the pollen off the deck yet. On Saturday, my younger daughter said that there was almost as much dust in the bedroom as there was pollen outside and I couldn't disagree. Today I forced myself to clean the master bedroom and bathroom. Thanks to whomever discovered the formula for End*st - I couldn't clean without it.

If it rains tonight (as predicted) the pollen will be gone - or merely displaced - through no efforts of my own. If only it would rain hard enough to clear the deck of the potting soil the squirrels dug out of my flower pots this winter!

In less than three weeks, my older daughter will graduate from nursing school. The decision to become a nurse came a bit later in life for her. She already has a degree in business, with a heavy concentration in accounting, but returning to that field didn't interest her. In spite of the fact that she has four children of her own, three step-kids (two of whom live with them), a husband, two dogs, two cats and a home to care for - she returned to school several years ago and will graduate mid-May with a B.S. in Nursing. Can you imagine how very proud we are of her? My heart will fairly burst with pride when I see her receive her pin and her diploma. I know how hard it was for her to find the time to study, and I know the dedication it took on her part - plus that of her husband - to make this happen. Way to go, Shannon - and Michael, thank you.

Congrats to her! I think that's really smart to do that given this economy. I believe that will be a job that is always needed. Good luck to her. Hope you're doing well! ;)

That spring fever hit here too. Last week I attacked two bedrooms, the third is yet to be done. Yesterday I tackled the kitchen and was wrecked last night but pleased. The washing machine, the cooker and the fridge/freezer are now back in place gleaming like new.

I like that quote, and agree to a certain extent, but am sure most of us fail on one or two points.

The Flower shuttle sounds a very rewarding activity.

Congrats big time to your daughter. What a marvelous occupation and one that will give her huge rewards and a pleasurably tired body. She is guaranteed employment.
Pollen here has kept me from my outside chores entirely too much. I want out.

Self -denial: I'm having 2 squares of chocolate at night instead of 4.
Congratulations to your daughter.
I graduated from nursing in 1951 and it's the achievment I think I'm most proud of.

Congratulations to your daughter and her supportive family. What a fantastic decision to become a nurse. It takes such care and dedication. Good for her!

We had a bit of spring fever, but it slipped away in the rain, snow, and hail.

Congratulations to Shannon and to her husband for his support. I'm sure she couldn't have done it without him.

I have gotten as far as thinking about Spring Cleaning. I may get to it by Fall. ;-(

Your daughter must have REALLY wanted to go into nursing. Good for her! And good for her family because that had to have taken a lot of support.

Congratulations to your older daughter and her whole family. It is hard to do what she's done without the cooperation of the group. I know you must all be so very proud of her.

Your younger daughter should have been handed a dustcloth and some spray when she made a remark about your dust.

I'm told that I have a lot of courage, can do self-denial when needed, I like to work, my taste is simple: I like the best. Does anyone really have a clear conscience?

I wish we had a flower shuttle here.

I got a mental hotfoot to get busy!!!!

Congrats to your daughter!!! I'm guessing that she got all of her fine qualities from you and her dad!

Congratulations to her... what a wonderful accomplishment!

You have squirrels... I have a night visitor. First time last night. I have planted 19 rose bushes over the last several months and I put in the last two yesterday. At 3 AM we had a visitor walking on the patio before heading to the rose garden. He dug up the rose I just planted and left it on its side above ground. He also tried to dig around three others. He was caught on the security camera and it looks to be a beaver. I wouldn't have ever thought we would have a beaver around here but the neighbor said she has seen them in the pond behind her house. So... how do you keep them out!!!!

Congratulations to your daughter Judy...THAT is a true major accomplishment in every way...! I would be so proud, too....!

I love how much you love working with Flowers, and especially with that group...I wish I could sit in and help, my dear.

I hope it POURS so you won't have to deal with the pollen and dirt on your deck. Praying For Rain...!

You must be a proud Mom.

Now, that pollen? Shoot, it comes around every year, why clean it NOW? :)

LOVE the quote.

I'm jealous of the flower friends. I thought my azaleas and lily of the valley would be ready for their close-ups today, but not quite. I do have a cousin who run her own greenhouse and business, so there's that. But, I'd love to know about arranging flowers.

Yay for your daughter! My sister went back to school to become an RN later than most, too, and she loves it. I hope your daughter does too.

Congratulations to your daughter. I'm sure she worked very hard to get her degree.

Sounds to me that she's a lot like her mother - a hard worker and makes every effort to do what gives her satisfaction.

You must be very proud!!
