New Shoes for Mr. Kenju

Last week, we went to one of those large warehouse -type shoe stores, in search of a new pair of shoes for mr. kenju. I had a discount card entitling me to $20 off the price of any pair $49.95 or more. He wanted something like the one on the left; a slip-on and no ties to bother with. Since they don't carry many size 13 shoes, we had to settle for another type of Dock*rs, but they were nice looking. Mr. k started to throw the sales slip away, but I convinced him of the wisdom of keeping it until he knew for certain that the shoes were right for him. He wasn't wild about the color (he called it pumpkin) but they fit well and looked good with jeans and khaki pants.

After he wore them for 6 days, the stitching started to come out of the top of the shoe, so I asked for the sales slip and took the shoes back to the store. The clerk said I could search the aisles for another pair, and that I would get the $20 off. They didn't have another pair identical to the first one, but they had an acceptable substitute in black, with white stitching, and they were the same price as the original pair. So, off I went to the check-out counter. The clerk started the transaction - voiding out the first pair and then making the sales slip for the new pair. She didn't know how to get the discount to show up on the register, so she called a manager - who did it for her. Then she proceeded to mess up that transaction and had to start it over. Luckily I'm a patient person (up to a point.)

She got it all done - or so she thought - and told me that I would owe $21 and change. I asked her....
"If the new pair is the same price as the old pair, and you are honoring the discount card, why do I owe $21 more?" Her answer was "That's just the way it is."

So I said, much to the amusement of the people in line behind me, "If that's the case, just give me back the money and I'll go to another store for the shoes." She thought it over and decided I might be right. So she called the manager.....who was obviously chagrined by it all...... and once the manager typed in the discount code (for the third time) the sales slip printed out, showing that I owed nothing.

A word to the wise: read your sales slip carefully the next time you shop at one of their stores. (The name starts with a D and ends with a W.......and has an S in the middle)

Hmmmmmm Good advice!!!! I've never had a problem with that store but there's always a first time!

I had to laugh at that one! Some Sales Assistants (and managers!) don't seem to have been born with common sense!

Hope the stitching stays put!

The thing is at least you put up a fight, people often don't and the store gets away with it. I'm like this with stuff I don't like on Ebay. If it doesn't fit the description I will complain and keep on until I get a refund. Some people just accept slightly faulty things because they aren't prepared to stand up for their rights with the seller.

I do not shop at that place. I don't care for it.

I am going to try that answer at work when customers are not satisfied. "That's just the way it is". I'll let you know how it goes.

"That's just the way it is" good grief. Way to hang in Judy.
I seem to save the receipts for the good stuff that is never a problem and lose the ones for the crap.

I have shopped there.
My last pair of shoes was a Christmas present.
Mom has to get hers at an SAS store and they are more expensive than at the other place, but they last forever... and I will have to admit that the difference in comfort is very noticeable. Now I am at the age where comfort trumps style, especially in shoes.

why oh why can I not figure out the name of the store?

The problem is they use computerised sales equipment and are not allowed to think for themselves.

I had a sales assistant put my choice of shoes in the incorrect box and therefore wanted to charge me more for my purchase. I knew what I was about so soon make her put the shoes in the correct box!

That's why I tell the kids that they WILL be going to college. I've seen the same kind of idiocy before and it always makes me angry that anyone that works with money could be so dumb.

Oh, goodness, I hope the stitching doesn't come out on these shoes as well.

I can't imagine which store that is. I don't think we have them in Canada. :-)

If a transaction is more complicated than giving the correct change it seems to be beyond the intelligence of the average clerk now. What have they been teaching in school the past 20 years?

Buying something on line (as I now have to do) becomes even more frustrating. If the product isn't expensive and you need to return it, it often costs nearly as much to send it back as it's original cost. Arrrrgh!

ok, I must be a total airhead because I have no idea what store this is. We must not have one here in Colorado Springs.

The only store we can find shoes for my hubby is Macy's. They have the right styles and sizes. The shoe stores here only have the hip hop styles for teen agers which my hubby hates.

take care

I can just see you taking deep breaths to remain calm. I hope these new shoes hold up for more than a week or that clerk will have you back, again.

You are very wise, Jusy....One never knows when one might need that sales slip...And that store sounds very badly run....!

Some clerks are out there to test our patience...
Hope the new shoes last a long time!
