They haven't deserted me!! After my neighbor shot at the deer about six weeks ago with a 22 rifle, I thought they'd be gone forever. While they are somewhat more wary of his yard, they have no qualms about being in mine - and that makes me happy! One of them was limping badly; holding her front leg up and trying not to put any weight on it at all. My neighbor told me he was going to shoot above them - just to scare them away - and I want to believe that he didn't actually shoot at them. I've worried about the deer because this winter has been so much colder than usual. It doesn't seem fair to the animals who don't hibernate.

They certainly are peaceful creatures aren't they. Kinda like walking flowers.

Aren't they gorgeous! I feel sorry for that one with the sore leg - I hope that wasn't your neighbour! apparently, deer can strip the bark off trees in hard winters, to keep them going, though its not their first choice of food. Or so the "Country Notes" in today's newpaper said!

I can't get my head around anyone shooting a gun at deer. Hope the injured one recovers.

Glad none of them were killed.

My mother has the same sort of view and deer every morning. She loves them, too.

I have to wonder if the one that is limping did get shot.

We have problems in Scotland because of the really bad weather the snow has prevented them from eating the grass and heather and they are dying and getting weaker. The stalkers are reluctant to leave hay as this affects their wildness. Global warming?

How lucky you are to have such a vies and they are lucky for having a no-kill zone. I hate that one is wounded. I would want to help but know they won't let you.
sprit traveler has put it perfectly for people who complain that the deer eat their flowers. They are "walking flowers" themselves.

It seems very strange that anyone would want to shoot at or above deer in these circumstances, I can understand the "hunters" who pit their wits against their quarry in the wild but this is different!!!!

How lovely to have such dear creatures in your yard! You are lucky!

Is there an animal organisation you could phone about the injured deer? I hate to think of any animal suffering.

There is a group of 8 to 10 deer that browse a field just down the street from my subdivision. I slowed down one dya to take a picture of them but they weren't having any of it. They took off into the woods.

Surprisingly, I haven't seen any this year. Usually, they're hanging out in our back yard.

Depending on how far apart your houses are, it's against the law to shoot a gun at anything in a residential neighborhood. I called the law on a man once who sat on his back porch shooting at deer coming into a field he didn't own that adjoined my backyard. One shot nearly flew over my head one day and it hit a deer in the hip/belly area. It didn't die. I had to get the game warden to come put it down and then state police came and shook the old geezer down over it (he was 83).

It's always a treat to see deer in the yard. I especially love when they feel safe enough to lie down and rest.

Isn't it dangerous to be shooting a gun in a "neighborhood." I don't think it's particularly neighborly. There are ways to keep deer out of the yard without resorting to guns.

This is just another reason why I hate guns. I hope the deer just has a minor injury and not a serious wound.

I love this pic and knowing they come to your yard to eat. On the west side of Colo. Springs the deer do the same thing. You drive down a neighborhood and there they are. It gives me a peaceful feeling when I see it.

I, like Darlene, hope the deer's injuries are not serious. It's very hard to hold back and not try to help, letting nature take its course. Keep us posted :)

I'm very happy your deer have returned. How nice that you have not abandoned them and they have not abandoned you:)
