The Shadows Know

Walking into my living room one day last week, I was dazzled by the bright reflections of this amber glass vase. My younger daughter calls it my "bong", due to the shape. I inherited this vase from my mother, who had it before I was born, so it's at least 70 years old.

The brilliant reflections can only be duplicated in the exact conditions; the sun has to be at just the right angle, and you have to be in the room to catch it at the brightest - since it only lasts a short time. I felt grateful to see it, and I know I may never again have that opportunity. It was a small gift of joy and wonder.

That is an amazing photo! Some of the nicest things are so fleeting!

That is awesome and a great capture. Did they have "bongs" 70 years ago?

Gee, Judy, just think. If you had a few more of these vases and sat them in exactly the right position
to reflect the Sun you would have your own private Stonehenge and could give away your Timex....

I love it when mementos from the past seem to say hello.
Bongs?

I hove the pattern made by the sun reflected through the vase. Glad you were around to capture it.

Fleeting indeed... especially recently with all the rain and snow!

I love to capture reflections - in my house, on the water, in the park. This is so unusual, and shows your photographer's sense of finding beauty in everything.

I'm glad you told us what it was cause I wouldn't have known. Certain plays of light really stop me too but it's hard to get a photo that translates.

Your daughter is funny!

What a lovely color and reflection that made.

Aren't you lucky that you had a camera at hand? Those rare moments are so seldom caught on film and now you can refer to it whenever you need to be "lifted up". Lovely.

LOL, I loved the bong comment.
It's a beautiful pic and to have a family heirloom is more precious then gold :)

When I saw that title "The Shadows Know" i thought we were in for an episode of the old radio program that went by the same name (at least here in Australia).
Its like the occasional experience of shafts of light through tree branches, you must not miss the chance when it comes.
