Can't Win for Losing

Having said that I wouldn't post about the accident or car troubles again until I had to - that time has come. If I don't vent - I'll scream.

Yesterday I told you that the windshield on my rental van had cracked under the weight of snow and ice that fell forward off the roof of the vehicle when I braked for a red light.

(That photo is not the rental van)

On Wednesday I returned that van and found out that my auto insurance will have a claim filed against it for the amount above my deductible. So something that was NO fault of my own - on a vehicle that I would NOT have had to drive if mine hadn't been hit by an unlicensed idiot - is costing me $100. I am adding this to the list of things that have caused me aggravation since we were hit and hoping that the insurance company for the other party will cover that expense for me. They ought to; I firmly believe that. It's too bad they can't also take away the raging headache I've had since I found out,

The rental company gave me a Kia Borrego to replace the Dodge Grand Caravan I had been driving. It's okay, but I would have preferred the minivan, since I am very familiar with them. Soon after I returned home, I got a call from the rental company asking me if there were two sets of keys on the keyring they gave me. Yep, you guessed it. Luckily, they sent a man here to pick up the other set of keys (which were not duplicates for the Kia, but another car on their lot.) Can you believe it?? I sure was glad they didn't ask me to drive back down there (a 23 mile round trip) to return the keys they gave me by mistake. I think I would really have lost it had they asked that. I almost cried when they told me I'd have to file a claim on my insurance. Having to return those keys would have been just enough to make me collapse in a puddle of tears.

If there is a lesson to be learned here, it is that you need to avoid an accident with every fiber of your being. Because even if it is not your fault, you will be agitated, aggravated and downright annoyed for weeks or months thereafter.

"Agitated, aggravated and downright annoyed" and your insurance will probably go up anyway.

I agree...been there done that. Accidents are meant to be AVOIDED.

Poor Judy - we've all been through it at some time or other. Don't let it get you down - I really do sympathise but don't want you to damage yourself with stressing about it. Take a deep breath and be ready for all the good things that will surely come your way:)

Oh Judy, I do feel for you! I've had hassle like that, though I have to admit I was at fault (slightly!) that time.

Hang in there, try not to think about it, and remember, I'm rooting for you here!

Yeah I've been involved in a car accident that was none of my fault at all but the amount of agro and drama I think it may have been easier if it had been my fault.

I'm glad they came and picked up the keys, I would have refused to take them back anyway.

Sorry that this is evolving into a nightmare. Under my insurance (and I am sure the car rental insurance) windshield repair is free if it is just cracked. You should look into this.

I fear you are in what I call a "boils and sores" period when things tend to keep piling up. The only consolation is that these periods DO end. You just have to ride them out. Pat is right, usually after these periods comes a string of really neat things.

Boy, you said it Judy. Accidents need to be avoided at all costs...they are so frustrating and put you through so much emotional grief. And it's usually when you're not at fault. Just don't stress out sweetie...you'll get through it. I will end Judy, just hang in there. Hugs, Joy

My dad used to say "Can't win for losing." Sure applies here. We were hit by a man who ran a red light a few years ago. No one was hurt, but there was a lot of car damage and we had a rental car for two months plus unbelievable amounts of aggravation from the woman at the insurance company. I hope this streak turns around for you real soon.

If you were not such an honest person I would have suggested you play dumb on this matter and claimed ignorance about the crack. Even if they did a walk around on the van before they released it, they could not have been certain a tiny ping wasn't there getting ready to spread all along. And, yes I continue to feel your pain.

Ugh! I don't think you (or your insurance) should be responsible for the damages to the rental. It would be different if you hit something. I would definitely fight that.

Sorry to read about the continuing saga. It never seems fair, and dealing with insurance companies is really a horrible way to have to spend time. Yes, I agree that the other insurance company should cover your out-of-pocket expenses.

Grrrrr.

The pain lingers. In the past ten years I have had cars (3) damaged four times. I was nowhere near them when the damage was done. AGHHHH! The thought still makes me mad.

Insurance companies are right under politicians on my s---- list.

When workmen stole from me I had to file a claim on MY insurance instead of on the policy of the company that hired the men. There is something wrong with that picture and something wrong with yours.

My husband also said, "Can't win for losing." I think the saying comes from experience.

Its good to vent it out. I feel for you, I know I would have burst into tears. Hang in there, we are all holding you up with postive thoughts :)

What a mess, Judy....It seems like there are so very many things these days that are going wtong---Here, too, I'm sorry to say.
I just want to stick my head under the covers---And I wouldn't blame you if YOU did too!
It's like the Domino Effect that's not your fault keeps happening. HELP! I'm agravated and agitated for you, my dear.
