Ear Wax, Fallen Leaves and Cable Remotes

When I get to the point that I can't hear well even with my hearing aids turned up, it usually means I have ear wax in abundance. Tuesday, I went to C*stco's hearing aid dept., to get my ears checked. The manager there, who I liked lots has flown the coop and a woman has taken his place. She checked my ears but neither had any wax, which was a big surprise to me. At the time she checked it, my right ear was completely stopped up. She advised me to see my doctor, who, she said, would put me on some sort of antihistamine or other sinus meds. My reaction: "Oh, joy, just what I need - more meds." She also made an appointment for me to get my hearing tested again in the middle of December, just in case the sinuses were not the cause of the problem. I may cancel that if I see it's not necessary. I took a Cl*ritin tonight. Wish me luck!

Our yard men came today to blow 14 days worth of fallen leaves; some of which were still wet from the steady rains last week. Six men, either wearing back-pack blowers or pushing air blowers on wheels worked for at least 40 minutes to corral the leaves into the natural areas of our yard. An hour after they left, you could barely tell they had been here. I wish a front would come in that had winds high enough to blow all the leaves off the trees at one time - but not high enough to blow limbs off or uproot trees. Who do I have to call to order that?

Guess what? The guys blew Stella the spider away! Mr. kenju noticed at dinner time that she was not in her usual spot. I opened the door and saw the remnants of her latest web creation (which really had been a beautiful sight) blowing in the breeze and Stella was no where to be seen. I hope she comes back and I'll let you know if she does.

Monday night the cable TV remote quit working. I turned it off in the afternoon and when mr. kenju turned it on after dinner - nothing happened. I turned on the TV and the cable box manually and proceeded to re-program the remote, but nothing worked. I had done it many times before and had no problems, so I called the local cable trouble-shooter for help. Either she was watching a sit-com or she was at home herding her children, but I distinctly heard kids in the background. LOL

I told her my tale of woe; she re-booted the box, to no avail. She told me to return the remote and get a new one, which I did the next day. Guess what? It doesn't work either. Pooh. That means I'll call them back and they'll tell me when their guy can come out to the house and install a new cable box**. I'm sure it will be three weeks from next Tuesday, between the hours of midnight and midnight, give or take a few.....

Update: Glory Be!! The cable service people will be here between 1pm and 3pm today!! According to the woman I spoke with last night, we have "low signals"; meaning a new cable box is in order. YAY!

** My younger daughter will say..."I told you so!" She's been telling me for months that we needed a new box.

Sounds like you had one of 'those' days. Hope your ear is okay and that Stella returns post haste.

We used to have several big trees that dumped piles of leaves on our lawn every November. Our next door neighbor (who didn't like kids or dogs, or teenagers or anything else about us) didn't have a single tree.

One year, when we hadn't raked any of our leaves yet, our neighbor complained loudly to everyone on the street that our tree was dropping leaves in his yard. I walked home wishing that a big wind would come and blow the rest over there. And guess what? It did!

I love the picture of the baby in the watermelon. You find the best random stuff!

Oh, I've got to go for a hearing test next week, to see if a hearing aid would help me! And I've got to go to my Dr. first to have my ears looked at. I'm not a waxy person, so not expecting her to find any!

In a way it would be nice to hear people properly, and what is said on the TV. On the other hand I have tinnitus, and wonder if an aid would just make it louder!?

Why do some people have everything working splendidly, and others struggle with the ordinary things of life?

I hope the hearing problem gets sorted soon. Do you have your aids checked? I seem to remember Katie saying I might need them adjusting after about a year if I'm not hearing so well but so far I just change the batteries.

We live at the top of a hill and the wind today is so strong the chimneys are swaying.

One good thing, the leaves have all blown together in one nice, but rather large pile. Guess who has to get rid of that?

Oh no, not Stella. I do hope she makes it back. I have actually enjoyed the saga of Stella.
Hope you get your hearing back and the new box fixes your problem. Hope you can still change channels the old fashioned way. Pretty sure the kids today would not know how to do that.

I literally gasp loudly when I read that Stella was blown away. Surely she will return.

Darn kids, don't you just hate it when they are right? LOL

I hope Stella makes a return. She seems like a pretty stalwart spider. I have the same issue with falling leaves. Seems like the bill is no sooner in the door than the rest of them fall off the trees.

Ugh. Cable problems...it drives me crazy, but I'm glad they'll be fixing your problem quickly!

My wife has a hearing problem and wears one of two hearing aids. She stops wearing them from time to time and then, after repeatedly asking, "What?" she puts at least one of them back in. And then, like clockwork, she gets annoyed at hearing too much and turns it off.

Can you leave some spider crumbs out for Stella? Hope she returns! What a great response from the cable guys....it usually takes a week to get anything done here. Hope the hearing gets better!

I raked a ton of leaves the other day, because I thought the front of the house looked like no one lived there anymore, at last no one who cared! Well of course, all the leaves are back. Ah fall.

Good luck with the ears, and keep us posted on Stella's whereabouts. She's got quite the fan club!

I don't bother with leaves until they're all down. Then, I pray like heck that the city's leaf sucker comes by the next morning or I'm just out there blowing leaves again.

Curmy fusses over the leaves in the back every day. That's where he has to find the dog mess to get it bagged. Leaves can't wait there.

Hope you're feeling better!

Whew...I would call all this stuff together, panic time. Just kidding. I never rake leaves because I have faith in a good wind to deliver them to the neighbors. So far, I haven't been disappointed.

UPDATE: no new box. Turns out that the remote I picked up yesterday was a dud. The guy brought in new ones and programmed them so we only have to have one for each TV, not 2 as before. Now, if I can just keep "some people" from pushing the wrong buttons, we'll be fine.

Good luck with your hearing issue, Judy. I often have sinus linked hearing issues, particularly on the left side, and they can be darn annoying.

I have had problems with my ears my whole life, I call them deformed, my husband laughs and tells me to stop telling people that :)

The truth is my ear canals are to small, so I have a build up of wax constantly. I used to go to the doctor to have them rinsed out.

They told me I could do it myself but after trying that and ending up at the docs with ear infections and having to be put on antibotics, I stopped doing it myself. I ear candle them, easier for me :)

I hope that your ear will be okay :)

I like the bread crumb idea for Stella :)

If Claritin doesn't work, try Zyrtec.

My husband had excessive ear wax buildup but only in one ear most of his adult life. He had a bulb syringe and routinely was able to rinse it out with warm water.

Hope you get your hearing issues resolved soon.

My dtr is waiting for all her VA leaves to fall so she can have them disposed of all at once. They can be such a mess after they've been rained on and so many accumulated. Her neighbors make no effort to take care of theirs or help her with hers when their leaves ultimately all end up on my dtrs yard. They're an intact family with sons and she's a struggling single Mom with only a young dtr. I just think they're terribly inconsiderate on that count and others, too, I won't go into here.
