Toenails, Little Girls and Coupons

So. I went to get a pedicure yesterday. I told someone that my cloven hooves were in need of pampering, and they definitely were. Now, you should know that I am always on the lookout for ways to save money. My nail salon has not offered any coupons for their services in several years, so this time, I took a $2 off coupon from another salon with me. I asked the owner if he would honor that coupon, and he said no (with a coy smile.) I had already decided that I would still have the pedicure there even if he said no, so I picked out my color and sat down. (The photo above is not my feet, but the color is similar, just darker)

"Oh, I LOVE That Color!" is the name of the new one. It looked fine when I tested it on my thumbnail, but by the time the woman had put on three coats of it - it was too dark - and instead of autumnal shades, it is more wintery- looking and brownish. It's sort of like dying oak leaves that turned dark, dark red on their way to death. On my pale feet, it stands out like a sore thumb. I suppose it doesn't matter, since I won't be wearing sandals much longer. At least it's better than the last color I chose, which was called "Sandstorm Over Cairo" and made my toenails look as though they had a bad case of fungus (all yellowish) - which they don't!

There was a little girl there getting a pedicure and a manicure, too! I thought she was about 7, but her grandma said she just turned 5 last week. I said "They sure are starting young nowadays!" Of course, I was in my 50's before I had a pedicure and that was thanks to my daughter. I wouldn't have ever tried it had she not taken me (and now I am fairly addicted to the process; the massaging is heavenly!)The woman who did it today was especially good, and so I tipped her 20% (a bit more than I usually do). When I went up to the front counter to pay, the owner said "Give me your coupon; I'll take the $2 off. Wasn't that nice of him? Very astute, too, since otherwise I might not have gone back there!

When I saw the photo, I thought "cool, how did she get such a good picture of her feet"
LOL.

I've never had a pedicure but it sounds lovely. Maybe I'll treat myself :)

I have had several. Like you since 50. Using birthday money to do something for myself before it paid for groceries or the lawn being cut. They are so relaxing I can hardly drive home!!! Hate it when the color looks different on our nails then in the bottle.

It sounds wonderful but would they do somebody 72 whose feet are swollen and actually does have fungus? And could I have each toe done a different color? I used to do my mother's feet when she could not longer reach them the last few years before she died at 90. No polish, just trimming. I remember when she was in ICU before we pulled the plug and her feet were sticking out under the hospital gown, I was glad I had just done her toes not long before. Is this getting too morbid?

I didn't get one until I was 50 either. Also courtesy of my daughter. We were in Japan at the time.

Last time we were in the US, we all had them done: myself, T1(6) and T2(3). The girls didn't have the full thing done, of course. Their feet were just massaged a bit and they had some color put on their toes with a tiny flower on the big toe. They loved it.

I'm glad you enjoyed being pampered. I've never quite understood pedicures and stuff like that. I kind of like the more natural look on women myself. Which sounds great coming from someone who dresses as over the top as I do!

Ok shoot me!

You had me laughing about the colors and thinking, OK for her but me??? I don't wear sandals so a pedicure...?? Then you mentioned massage. Did not know that was part of it. Now I am checking the yellow pages.
Thanks for a new experience for my bucket list.

That would have been the color I selected. I think a person has to be really brave and really desperate to allow a stranger to touch their feet. You never seem to have any qualms.

I haven't tried a pedicure yet, but it does sound like a very good thing to do. Nice to get that discount too. A wise business decision.

The massage is indeed the best part!

I have never had a pedicure. Five is a little young in my book to start. What will that young lady do for kicks and treats when she reaches 15?

I have never had a manicure or a pedicure, although it has crossed my mind. It sounds like a lovely experience.

I'm the odd one......I don't like pedis or manis.....don't want anyone touching my feet and I would ruin a manicure in 5 minutes.....before the polish even dried.
