A Bountiful Harvest

On our way home from the beach last week, mr. kenju wanted to stop at a peanut store. On Rte. 58 across Virginia, there are several places that sell fresh peanuts (and peanut brittle). We stopped at this one, and as usual, I forgot the name of it. The front porch area was so colorful I had to take photos.

Someone is good at setting up vignettes to show their wares.

You know the saying "warts and all?" that's what this pumpkin reminds me of. It would probably be hard to carve, but wouldn't it make a great "witchy-faced" jack-o-lantern?

Some oddly-shaped gourds. I wonder if they ever paint those lighter green ones to look like snowmen?

Another perspective of the front porch. I would have taken photos inside the shop, but it was so dark I knew the photos would not turn out well.

I hope to get out to some local markets and take photos for you soon.

I saw a warty pumpkin and took a photo too. Sort of fits with witches and all.

Boy fall is really here. The display looks wonderful. So did you get peanut brittle. Sounds perfectly wonderful for cool, crisp evenings.

Lovely. Reminds me of places we would visit with our youngest daughter when she lived a little more upstate in NY.

'Seasons of mists and mellow fruitfulness' leaps to mind.
Warty pumpkins make me glad we don't celebrate Halloween. I know I'm a spoilsport:)

Oh i just love all the gourds, pumpkins and such. We dont have anything, since we've been away the past few weeks. And it seems silly to buy any now...

There was a feature on the TV news about a blind father who had adopted a blind son and when they went to pick out their pumpkin the son wanted the warty one. The reporter called it the braile pumpkin. :-)

Have to admit, I loved the warty one. Guess I am more taken with character than looks and that rascal has character.

What a fantastic collection of all things pumpskin and squash shaped! We simply do not get things like that over here. Lots and lots of big orange pumpkins at this time of the year (where does all that pumpkin flesh go?) but the reast of the year? Zilch!

Not that I would know what to do with them.

Judy, do you read Carolyn's Tumbleweeds and Thyme? http://www.tumbleweedsandthyme.typepad.com/
She works at Stoneys in Virginia Beach and she posts things I just know you would love.

Great photos! We have only urban pumpkin patches.

I really appreciate photos like these. They look so comforting, somehow. (Warty pumpkin and all).

I don't get out to see things like this so am grateful when someone shows them on their posts. I can reminisce about times when I was able to participate and view Fall displays.

wow. Do people eat such things or are they only for decoration? I've never seen so many differently shaped things in the same place.
