Back Home Again

We were gone for four days (did you miss me?) to the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area. Mr. kenju played basketball for Sublant (The Submarine Atlantic Fleet) when he was in the Navy and he and some of his buddies planned a reunion of the team. Unfortunately, there were quite a few for whom he had lost contact information and a few who couldn't come at the last minute. That meant only three of them showed up for the reunion - with wives in tow - of course.

Have you ever known someone with whom you could pick up the threads of life instantly, as though you had never been apart? We spent the past three and 1/2 days with the couple who were our Best Man and Matron of Honor, lo these many (45) years ago. We have only seen them four other times since 1964, for short visits, and each time it seemed we had not been separated by time and space, when, in truth, we have. I love that we are so familiar and comfortable together. It's great fun to be with people you have known well for so many years, especially when they haven't changed a bit!!

The third couple there for the reunion was only able to stay one night, but we thoroughly enjoyed their company also. We had not met his wife before, but she instantly fit in well with the rest of the group and after 4-5 hours, we felt as though we had known her for years.

When we left there this morning, I fought back tears as we said our goodbyes and sent our dear friends on their way north and west, while we left for our return home. Who knows when we will see them again?

I have downloaded the photos I took on the trip, but I need to do some work on them before I can show you. Maybe tomorrow. At the moment, I am exhausted and I'm headed to my recliner, to provide a lap for my two cats, who missed me terribly. See you tomorrow!

Sounds like you had a great trip! Maybe it won't be so long before you see them again.

Those kinds of reunions are the best, and, yes, it is always hard to leave.

It is so wonderful to have those long time relationships that time nor distance ever changes the closeness and comfort one feels....
Maybe you all should plan another reunion for each year or every two years. As the years pass things can happen, especially as we get older....So glad you had such a great time.
I look forward to seeing your pictures Judy.

I love Virginia Beach. We've stayed there several times, with friends. Like you, we don't see them that often, but when we do it's like we've never been apart.

Glad you had a good time, and yes I missed you. :)

That sounds like a perfect way to spend a reunion weekend. I have friends like that, we may not meet often or speak on the phone for a couple of months, but when we do the conversation continues without any gap.

Thanks for the reminder... I must phone them tonight.

Sounds like you really enjoyed each other. Agree with OOLOH, you all should make it a regular thing.
I have a friend from the 2nd grade like that. Years and miles separate us but when we do get together, it seems like only days have passed. Hang on to those kind.

I have a best friend like that, whom I can go for months (and in the past...years) without seeing her and instantly reconnect when we do.
Kind of reminds me of an embroidered quote that my grandmother used to have in her bedrooom: "Make new friends, but keep the old, those are silver, these are gold..."

What a truly wonderful trip for you and Mr. Kenju....those are the best reunions and ones you take with you for years to come. Those kind of relationships are very special Judy...even if you don't see each other that often. Looking forward to the pics....

It's always special to reconnect with dear old friends. It doesn't happen often enough, but when it does, it's nice to be reminded how a good friendship lasts. Looking forward to your pics.

reunions with old friends are fun, especially if you have some time to go over old times and get reacquainted.
nice post

Sometimes the LESS the merrier can be true. I too find myself crying these days as we leave good times with dear friends.

Old friends are just like comfy slippers on again and it feels so right. To have good friends is a joy, not to be missed by miles or time. Your trip sounded much fun,

I love your blog. Thanks for posting to mine so I could find you.
As Arnold says; "I'll be back.."

Probably when I get back from Paris and recover from the trip.

Oh, yes, it's wonderful to have those friends with whom we seem to be able to resume such instant togetherness despite the years we've been physically apart. Do treasure them.
