Scene in Raleigh

An NCSU student made use of the construction on Hillsborough Street by the university, and used these barrels to make a "barrel-man". He got in some trouble, but I think he should be commended for seeing art where no one else did! It's very creative.

Thanks to my neighbor Anne for sending the photo my way.

This statue of Sir Walter Raleigh stands on the plaza at the entrance to our new Civic Center. This photo was snapped Saturday, just after a high-school graduation ceremony. Sir Walter was all dressed up for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, also held this weekend. Don't you love his pink tulle tutu?!

I love the barrel man.
Sir Walter is probably rolling over in his grave... he was always the swashbuckling gentleman though!

Very creative, both of them. I think I may be partial to Sir Raleigh in his tutu.

I think it was actually brilliant to think this up!

The Barrell Man would get my attention for sure.

Kids graduate from coloring books and crayons to poster paint and get more creative as they age. A statue of the founder of Colorado Springs, General Palmer, sits on his horse in the middle of the street intersection by the High School. He always was the recipient of some very creative painting - especially the horse. ;-)

The Barrel man is great. Also, your post about the Pinehurst Fair Barn was great. You are right. It is a very elegant place and I've been to two auctions there when they were raising money for good causes. A very unusual setting.

Love the barrel man....very clever. Raleigful looks like a beautiful city. Ron's daughter lives there and we are planning to visit her soon. Can't wait to see the city.

The barrel man is wonderful and very clever and creative! Just what we need to cheer our lives up.

As is Sir Walter Raleigh. Civic pomp sometimes needs to be taken down a bit!

Hadn't realised the town was named after the man!

The barrel-man idea should be adopted. He certainly makes you aware of the roadworks.

The student looks like a budding Banksy who for years was in trouble with the police for covering walls with his art and now is recognised as a distinguished artist with world acclaim. He is a local boy - more or less - so we are all terribly pleased.

Just loved the barrel man. That is creative but non-destructive art. He should get a contract from the city. It would keep you from being ticked off at the road construction.

One just has to love the harmless creativity of the young. The "barrel man" is great!

I agree with you about the barrel man and think the student was quite creative.

Barrel man is too funny. At first glance I thought it was Transformers!

OMG Sir Walter Raleigh! Would you believe I have a huge Sir Walter Raleigh lamp (hidden in my bedroom) that I bought in Las Vegas at store that sold old hotel furniture! I'm sure it's an antique and I just love it, even though it is rather tacky. But isn't everything in Las Vegas tacky!
