Odds and Ends + a hint for Valentine's Day

Wanna buy a condo? Slightly used; needs loving care.

This suggestion should have been posted a week ago! GUYS: If you are planning to order flowers for Valentine's Day, don't wait until Friday to do it!! And please consider ordering something other than red roses. The red ones are so ordinary and overdone - and there are many other gorgeous colors of roses available and many other types of beautiful flowers to buy instead of roses. Mixed bouquets usually last longer, too, assuming the flowers are in good condition when you get them.

Go to your local flower shop - and don't call 1-800 numbers or florists listed on the web, unless you know their shop and can vouch for them. So many places these days are simply call centers which transfer your order to shops that use low grade flowers and charge the same as good shops would, but for inferior products. Part of the money you pay them for the flowers actually goes to transferring the order, so you are not getting full value for your money!

If you are willing to take delivery before Sat., you may be able to get a discount on delivery, and if you are willing to pick up the flowers and deliver them yourself, you'll save a bundle on delivery fees.

Judy,

Yet again you inspired me. I have stolen your tip about the flowers for the folk at my place.

Thank you.

Totally loved the firemen pouring water on the bank while houses burned. Kind of says it all.
Thanks for the tip. I have been the victim of the 800 number. Great advise and will pass it on.

I'm one of those "don't buy me cut flowers" types. I know...I stink! LOL.

I always wish my kids would give me a plant from the local nursery instead of cut flowers. Flowers only last in my photos of them. I am so practical (I know, I stink too.) Nonetheless, your tips are excellent for those who are more romantic.

A guy can never go wrong with giving flowers.
If you lived nearby, I'd order my flowers from your florist shop, and I'd request my arrangements be done by the lovely, talented Judy!
:-)
The Reverend is not big on romance, but one thing he does often is buy me flowers for no reason at all. I love when he does that!

The cartoons are funny, as usual.

After my unpleasant experience with the 1-800 Florist types, I have followed your advice and called the closest local florist to the recipient. I have had nothing but success. In fact, it has made sending flowers so much more fun when talking to someone who is right there and more than willing to do the best job possible. Thanks for your florist wisdom.
