I should have posted these back when we were actually having winter. For the last week, we've had spring-like temperatures and bright sun! YAY!
^^^^^^^
On Wednesday night, when all of NC and the rest of the ACC Conference area was preparing to watch the BIG GAME between UNC and Duke, we heard three loud pops and then the electricity went off in the entire neighborhood. If you know ACC Basketball, and specifically the rivalry between UNC and Duke, you know how disastrous this was! I was on the phone to Progress Energy's service line within seconds of finding candles, matches and a flashlight, and while I was on that phone call, my neighbor left a message saying...."It's just amazing the lengths those Dookies will go go to to sabotage the game!" LOL
Lucky for us, Progress Energy repairmen must be basketball fans, because they responded pronto and by the middle of the first half, we had power restored. Duke led at the end of the first half, but UNC came out shooting in the second and they won handily. My daughter said this morning that had she been home at the time, she would have beaten a quick path to the nearest sports bar for the game (and I'd have been with her!)
It was so warm here yesterday, that even though the arena at Duke is now air-conditioned, the players were perspiring like crazy and every time the action stopped, even for a second, there were guys on the floor mopping up sweat. There ought to be a way to prevent that; maybe they should all wear sweat bands on their heads. Anyway, we are all happy here; my children are ecstatic and look forward to the next game, where we have the home court advantage. YAY!

I suppose our foot ball is the equivalent of your basket ball although basket ball seems to be more civilised.
Sweatbands would do nothing toward keeping the sweat off the floor. They'd soak through them within minutes. And then there's the sweat dripping off of them from all the other places on their bodies!
Oh, and EEWWWWW!
It might have been a good thing for you were spared having to watch Duke lead in the first half.
Have some Dookies in my not so immediate family, sorry bout that.
You should have come over to my place and watched on my 56" screen. And yes, it is all about size! The first half of the game was pretty interesting but the second half was better by far.
I love Maxine. She has a way of putting things...LOL
I notice that Maxine wears a hat even to bed. I only have to do that here about 2 times a year. I put on my air conditioning while driving in Roanoke yesterday because I was overdressed for the mountain. Up here it's still wood stove time.
I can see how that would be a disaster! And you do wonder why these things happen at such inopportune times....lol!
Glad you got your power bavk on, Judy......
That MAXINE....LOL.....She is Hilarious!
it is always winter somewhere on the earth....like Idacold. I am a sports dummy.....yea for whoever you tell me to root for.
Great Maxine cartoons...she says it all. Although we've been having some nicer weather lately, someone has been predicting some more snow...possibly this weekend. I sure hope they're wrong....I am SOOOO ready for spring...even though that idiot groundhog said we'd have 6 more weeks of winter. What does that furry varment really know?
Yes it is that time of year here, ACC worship abounds.
The teeth chattering cartoon really gave me a chuckle!
Keep enjoying basketball. I don't follow any sports. I didn't even watch a minute of the Super Bowl, and the same is usually true of The World Series or any other big sporting even... except The Olympics, which I do watch.
I'm not a fan of cold weather either, so I'm always glad when it warms up.
