My daughter and I requested tickets from our senators to the inauguration, but we didn't receive them. I resigned myself to staying home and not attending this history-making event. About 5 days ago, my daughter got an email from her former firm, saying that they had secured tickets for anyone who wanted them. She called to offer me one, but I had to say no. I had made several appointments and obligations since deciding that I was not going to go - and it was just too late to change all those things.
Deciding to stay home was difficult; standing on the frigid, windy streets in downtown DC for hours on end, with millions of people jockeying for position and no bathrooms, except for dirty porta potties, eating food sold by vendors who charge quadruple what it is worth (if not more) sounds enticing, doesn't it? But I gave all that up to watch it from the comfort of my recliner.
Hush! I can too make the tough decisions!!
Now I hope you will all join me in welcoming Barack Obama to the job of President and praying that his deliberations and decisions will be well thought out, intelligent and compassionate.

What a tough decision that was! Busloads of Canadians have made the trek to be there....would love to be there too. Alas, I will be watching from my desk (not even a recliner). My husband and kids will be home this afternoon though to take it all in in comfort.
He is certainly high on my wish list. Glad you won't be freezing out there- there's a lot to be said for feet up and the telly:)

I hope today is a beautiful, memorable day for him. He deserves it, because the next 4 years are going to be tough. Expectations are so high, I hope he learns to just take it one day at a time.
In my heart - I would LOVE to be there for this momentous occasion. But physically, it is not realistic. You cited most of the valid reasons as to why it will be better viewed in a warm room at home.
Judy, of course all of us that supported him welcome him. But we can't sit down and let him have at it now. We have to continue to back him and help him just like we said we would when we cheered at those rallys. That is, if we were serious about our promises to help him too. We have to work this together if we're to turn this country around, not just put it on his shoulders and see what he'll do now.
I would of loved to have been there too :)

I watched it with wonder and awe today and just pray that we can keep him safe. I also pray that we can all sacrifice for the common good and turn our country around. He is our big chance and we need to make sure that the big Washington egos don't undermine his path.
It would be more fun talking about (or blogging about) having been there than actually being there...
I think we can count on his decisions being well thought out -- and well advised. My hope is that he's not roadblocked by the political machine in Washington.
And deciding to stay home and honor your prior commitments... that was a tough decision.
(Wish I'd had to make such a decision, but there's no love for a humble civil servant such as myself.)
I do indeed join with you in this great great hope. I feel he WIKK do all this, and more. And I realize it will take time. Wed must be patient because it all didn't get like this quickly....I truly believe if anyone can save our country, it is this man!
He "WILL" do this.....Typing to quickly, once again....! Sorry about that.
The whole world is holding its breath and waiting for his wisdom to help ease things that are currently a bit out of shape.
I'm starting to believe it's real! It goes beyond my wildest dreams.
I watched the inauguration, and I prayed for President Obama to have the wisdom to lead our nation to prosperity and continued security. I did not vote for him, and I will judge him as I do all our leaders... not by his words but by his actions, and more importantly the results of those actions. God bless him, his family, and our nation.
