Ephemera: Old Magazine Ads

This is from a commemorative of Life Magazine's premier issue - November 23, 1936. I love the old car ads. This one is very art deco and the diagonal lines created in the ad create the illusion of speed, while all the grill work says luxury and style galore!

I wonder what the executives of that time at GMC would think of what's going on in the industry at this moment? I suspect they never dreamed that 72 years in the future, General Motors was going to ask for a bailout!

I love hose ads!!!!

Remember Charlie Wilson's quote: "What's good for GM is good for the country." He's rolling in his grave as I type.

Judy,

I often wonder what the inventors would think of our modern day improvements on their ideas.

Can you imagine telling Orville and Wilbur Wright that 100 years after they flew 111 feet in their first test flight, that there would be a plane that could carry more than 400 passengers , have eleven movie screens, 12 bathrooms and in the case of the early 747, would have a piano lounge on the upper level.

Heaven only knows what the next 100years will bring!

Meanwhile, I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year.....

Merry Christmas to you too!
My daddy owned a Ford dealership for years, he's passed on and I can't even imagine what he would say about all this crazy bailout stuff.
