A Small Taste of DisneyWorld + a Thank You

When I attended a convention in Orlando in the early 90's, we stayed in the Swan Hotel, on the grounds of Disney World. The Dolphin Hotel is nearby, and I photographed both. I honestly don't know which interior photos are which hotel, as I didn't mark them.

Another view. I was always proud of this photo. All of these were taken with my old 35mm camera.

The Swan. I scanned these photos directly into the computer and I didn't crop or lighten them first, although this one could have benefited from that.

The Dolphin Lobby

A restaurant.

I loved these structural columns made to look like palm trees.

The monkeys are but one example of the whimsical ornamentation and decor found all over Disney World. The attention to detail is astounding.

One wall of the Dolphin, painted with palm fronds. Have you been to Disney World? What is your strongest memory?

I returned home today at 6:45 pm, having worked since 9 am. I was telling myself how tired I was when I opened the mailbox to a big envelope. The contents made me very happy. I have won some sort of contest over at Travelin Oma's and she sent me a book I can't wait to read, titled:

"No One Cares What You Had for Lunch: 100 Ideas for Your Blog" by Margaret Mason.

Thank you so much, Marty! You are a woman of your word - which I never doubted for a moment. I am really looking forward to reading the book.

I was at Disneyworld about the same time you were--1990. The title of that book intrigues me.

I've visited the Magic Kingdom, but never the hotels. They look very plush.

Your photos have really stood the test of time. How I wish I had had a digital when I went to India and Canada.
That book sounds a great idea for the days when you wonder what in tarnation can one write about?
I've never been to Disney World - not even the French one. I always remember John Gielgud said visiting the one in the States was one of his greatest expereiences. Maybe one day.

Hmmm. I never went to Disney World as a kid, nor ever with a kid. And the only times I've been there have been for work.

So I just don't get it. It looks like a great big monnel to me (I made up the word. It means "money funnel").

And Disney doesn't treat their workers very well.

I was there once and I can't remember much. It wasn't my thing because I get so easily over stimulated. I seem to recall It's a Small World and a virtual plane ride.

Hi Judy :)

I've never been to Disney World, but I've been to Disneyland more times than should be deemed rational. For me, it IS the happiest place on earth ;)

Beautiful pictures!

We went there in the 80's for a leadership conference, I really liked Epcot center a lot more than the Disneyworld gig.
That book sounds like a fun read, be sure to let us know what you think!

I've lost count of our trips to Disney World. For my family it is a magical, wonderful place. My granddaughter is now living in Orlando, working for Disney in their accounting department. It is her dream job - working in the happiest place on earth.

I've never been there...hoping we can manage it sometime in the near future.

But from all the publicity material I've seen from the House of Mouse, I swear your pictures would be right at home among them.

I have never been to DISNEYWORLD and it is fabulous to see these pictures, Judy!
I have always been so impressed with the "details" of Disnetland...Every last detail! And how fresh and clean and newly-painted everything always looks no matter when you go there.
To see pictures of the Interios of these Hotels is great fun!

I lived there when they were opened/built. We used to go to an ice cream shop in the Dolphin. They were very colorful these photos are slightly faded compared to the really vibrant colors)... and the fabic balloon-like central rotunda was a lot of fun. I heard that they redecorated in the last 5 years or so, but haven't been back to see. But we used to park there at those hotels, then take their tram to the International Gateway entrance to EPCOT.
Was fun seeing the photos and remembering. :) We could very well have been there at the same time. :)
