Guess Where I Went Monday Night?

This is at the entrance to the Duke University Basketball Museum in Cameron Stadium; a fitting shrine to Mike Krzyzewski. (I'm still wondering why it's pronounced She-shef-ski.)

There are several walls of photos; tributes to former outstanding players and coaches.

My ticket!

These full-page photos of the 2008-09 team were passed out to everyone. On the reverse (below) we found team stats. Click to enlarge (I hope). One of the newer players is from Reno. His name is Olek Czyz, and when I asked how it was pronounced, they said...."Chiz". I wonder if he'll ever be called "Chiz Whiz?"

Our seats were in the end zone, and it was a surprisingly good place from which to view the game. And since we were directly under an air conditioning vent, it was cool and slightly breezy. That's a definite improvement in Cameron- due to the system which was installed in this old stadium about five years ago.

This cutie patootie sat in front of me. This is not a particularly good photo of her. Those big, dark eyes were even larger in person. She was a little lady during the game, but she was much more interested in the popcorn and cheers than she was the player's action. I think we are seeing a future Duke Cheerleader here!

They played Presbyterian College; a team which gave them a good run for their money, even though Duke won by 31 points. Presbyterian seemed to have unlimited stamina and didn't stop running and gunning all the way through the game. They were much smaller than Duke players also. I overheard a fan say...."If we play like this against the bigger teams, we won't win anything." There were way too many turnovers, and that needs to stop before the season gets going. I enjoyed the game - but don't tell my children. They are all UNC fans and Duke is anathema!

How cool is that! Lucky you. I've always wondered about the pronunciation of his name as well.

I never could get interested in basketball, I guess because I don't understand the rules.
Glad you had a good time.

Apparently my old school now play basket ball. We girls played netball - I'm wondering what the difference is. I feel a google coming on.

Here we are:)

'The difference between basketball and netball is that in basketball you can take more than 2 steps and dribble up the court, but in netball the most amount of steps you can take is 2 and you are put in certain positions. Another difference is that netball is played in thirds and basketball in halves.'
Fortunately I so rarely had the ball no-one would notice I was breaking the rules.

I think the pictures of the spectacular spectacle by this spectator (you) are fabulous!

I also love the wedding flowers... you know... I do believe that the flower arrangements used these days are so individual and different. Not like we had, even 30 years ago.... makes me almost wish I were getting married again.... ALMOST!!!!!

Hi Judy,

I really enjoyed reading all about the Duke basketball team.

My brother, Jack, went to Duke in 1939-40. When the War came along he joined the Army Air Corps, became a pilot and never went back to Duke. But, if you ever asked him ,the rest of his life, where he went to school, he always said,"DUKE UNIVERSITY"

He loved that school.....

How about telling us how to pronounce the Asst. Coach's name?
Steve Wojciechowski.

Chiz Whiz sounds a lot like Cheese Whiz.
:-)
That little girl is adorable.
I haven't been to a basketball game in years.
Or a baseball game or football game...
My, oh my, I am truly not a follower of sports.
