Tiny Deer

This tiny deer was delivered by Caesarean section at a wildlife hospital after his mother was killed by a car. Little Rupert, who is so small he can fit in an adults hand, was born after vets failed in their battle to save his mother. At just six inches tall and weighing just over a pound, he is now in an incubator in the intensive care unit at Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital in Buckinghamshire. He has only recently opened his eyes. Les Stocker, founder of Tiggywinkles, said: Rupert's mother had very severe injuries.
We brought him out and got him breathing and then he went into an incubator on oxygen. He is now being fed by a tube. Staff are optimistic that Rupert, now five days old, will make a full recovery. Deer are very, very tricky but this one has spirit. He's an extremely feisty little guy and quite pushy, Mr. Stocker said.

when I was the blog link for "tiny deer," I was wondering if you'd been down in the Keys with the Key Deer that live on Pine Key... nice story.

What a cutie! He looks healthy, even as small as he is. And I know all about having a preemie over here! Mine's 10 and already a "sullen teenager". LOL.

Careful. Sarah Palin has been nurturing a newborn rifle. It's only a little pop-gun right now, but its scope just opened a couple days ago, and with proper care and feeding, it's likely to be a large-bore with an effective range of 1000 yards by the open of deer season.

Wow I didn't know a deer could be that small.

Go Rupert go! You know you can do it!

What a cutie. I hope Rupert makes it - if he's a fighter as indicated, I'm sure he will.

Such sweetness. There's a bike path not far from my house where I often come across grazing deer. What a privilege to watch them for as long as they're content to have me there.

Which makes me happy. Which is this week's Thematic Photographic theme. I know you've got lots of happies, Judy!
