There's a Fungus Among Us

For the last several months now, after every rain storm we see these yellow things popping up on the deck. I left the pine straw in the photo, so you could see how itty-bitty tiny the mushrooms really are. So far, they've come up just in this one area, right outside the kitchen door. I'm glad, because if they popped up all over our deck, I'd freak out. Do you know what they are called? They are such a nice, bright shade that I'd like to have a whole pot of them.

See? They are smaller than the nail head.

Mr. kenju is out of town this weekend, attending a pipe smokers exposition. So, I actually got something accomplished today! I can't get much done when he's around. I sat on a huge, thick pillow in my kitchen floor; cleaned out my lower cabinets and replaced the liners. This has needed to be done for ages and ages, so I feel good about finishing it. Oh, wait.....I didn't finish. I'll have to do that tomorrow. Three more lower cabinets and then the top ones. Maybe now I won't be embarrassed when someone opens a door!

Pretty fungi.

We did our kitchen cabinet organization last weekend and feel much better about it.

Have you tried pouring some bleach on the fungus?

Oh, they are tiny and pretty now with their cute shape and bright yellow color, but one night they could suddenly grow to giant proportions and sneak inside to devour you. I'm pretty sure they are aliens. You better write Mr.Kenju a note in case you are missing when he returns.

I love it when I have time to myself to get things done. Good for you on the kitchen cabinet organization.

I don't know anything about mushrooms, but those really are a pretty shade.

They are pretty and look like tiny flowers now, but they must have huge roots or I don't think they could reach the top of a deck. Maybe the roots are in the crack of the deck; oh heck, I don't know what I'm talking about.

I'd nip them in the bud, anyhow. They don't belong there.

Cleaning cabinet - a good feeling once it's done.

Life amazes me with its ability to survive in the most incredible places. I've often taken pictures tagged "life, defiant" to reflect this feeling. It reminds me that spirit can take us so far, even when the odds are incredibly stacked against us.

I found on under the railing of my handicap ramp, just as tiny. It's a stubborn little thing. Doesn't want to come out.

Those are funny little things, aren't they! I haven't a clue, Judy....Jope you find out what they are and HOW they got there...

I soooo need to do exactly what you are doing...My shelves haven't been relined in, Well....I am ashamed to say how long! But, the chances are slim to none that I will do anything about it...!I just don't have the same dexetrity I use to have so it is all rather difficult for me....!

Do you feel like coming to Los Angeles to do some more? LOL! Just kidding about that, though I hope you do come to Los Angeles at some point, just for a visit!

I think they're pretty! I never thought of putting a cushion on the floor to do cupboards. What a terrific idea! It does feel good once they are all done, doesn't it? Fall cleaning instead of Spring cleaning. LOL

Now don't go eating them!
Delighted that Mr Kenju is well enough to venture alone.

How did I miss that great title when I was posting my mushrooms... Fungus Among Us!

The fungus may be a sign that the board they're growin on needs to be replaced. Maybe you could cut out that portion and start growing a mushroom garden!

Tiff, you know the whole deck needs to be replaced. We're doing it bit by bit, because replacing all 1500 sq. feet is too costly!

I think it's Dacryopinax spathularia...it's a fungus that loves wood--tables, chairs, decks...

Very pretty, but it's still fungus.

Good for you! I'm sure it felt good to get that nearly finished. It's always easy to let projects go that can be hidden behind closed doors. I tend to let our showers go for way too long without a good scrubbing because no one sees inside them but us.
Talk about a fungus growing among us!! Those showers have had their share of not-so-cute fungus.
Those little mushrooms are cute!
