Wonderful Old Automobiles

Subtitle: "They don't make them like they used to!"

Above: 1954 Dodge Firearrow. I don't remember this car. In '54, we thought the car to have was a Ford Fairlane. But I wouldn't have turned this one down. Notice the wide, wide white walls! Some of you will remember having to clean those!

1938 Buick
Imagine.... this car was new 70 years ago! I think it's hard to tell the front from the rear unless you can see the steering wheel, but it sure has more style than the cars of today. What a huge bumper!

1941 Chrysler Thunderbolt; kind of looks like a tank and is probably just as safe to drive!

1951 Buick LeSabre.....I'm not sure how I feel about a "cyclops" car, but it did have some very fluid lines, and I love the color.

1953 Buick Wildcat. I would love to own this one today! What's your dream car?

I had the greatest fun with my Triumph Spitfire and drove it from Kent to the south of France and back.

Wow, automobile designs used to be so fantastic. My brother used to draw design after design and was in love with cars. I'll bet he's got some pictures left that he could share today. Cars are getting pretty boring to look at.

I love old cars...
My "dream car" would have to be the '66 or '67 Ford GT40. I mean if you're gonna dream, dream big right? It's best known for dominating the 24 Hours of Le Mans for several years, but there actually were enough street-legal models built for "homologation". Hit zero-to-omigod in about 3.6 seconds and cornered like a worm on sandpaper...

Of the cars I could actually ever own, several of the old 60's and early 70's vintage muscle cars come to mind, but I suppose I wouldn't mind having my '69 Pontiac GTO convertible back again. I was never going to have the money to complete the restoration though, so it's best that I sold it to someone who did.

1967 Mustang.

Or something in the late 30's in the Packard line.

Steve is the old car buff....his dream is a '57 Chevy 2 door. Mine? I'd like to have my Toyota MR2 back. It was red, had a turbo and only 2 seats so no one accompanied my without in invitation. Ground clearance wouldn't happen Idaho so I had to sell it.

LOVE these Cars, Judy!

I don't have a favorite car that I would love to own now...But I DO remember the cars in the late 30's and early early forties---before the war, I mean, were Fab! Also, after the war, too!
Because of Gas rationing we did not have a car all through the war years...And after the war there were the Very New Cars---Kaiser-Fraser....! My mother got aq Kaiser. You never hear too much about those cars now. It was very nice!
My first two cars were Chevy Convertables....My first one was a 1950, I beleve. And the second was a 1956. Both were very pretty colors....!

Oh, beautiful cars!!! I am not into cars, I only need a "fun size" for easy parking :)

My brother had a 1939 DeSota convertible. It was Green although Jack never said it was Green. It was Colorado Spruce...

My very best car was a 1984 Ford Crown Victoria. It was White with a Red leather Landau roof and a red pin stripe. How I loved that car.

When I bought a new car in 1990 I gave the Crown Victoria to my college age son and he did NOT take care of it. When I saw that car coming I couldn't look at it because it was always strewn with McDonald's wrappers,Burger King crowns, gigantic Nike sneaks and huge duffel bags full of smelly clothes to be washed and taken back to school.

I couldn't wait for him to wear that car out so I didn't have to see it anymore. As luck would have it he had 230,000 miles on it before he got rid of it.

It was a shadow of it's formerly beautiful self!

These are great cars. They bring back memories of the slightly less-than-classic cars I've owned: a 1963 Cutlass Olds, an Audi Fox, a 1972 BMW, a 1992 SAAB. What fun. Now I settle for utilitarian, high MPG and I'll probably switch to one more care in this lifetime- some kind of hybrid or non-gasoline version.

That one car really does look as strong as a tank.

Those old cars have such character.

I don't really have a dream car, but I do like the looks of those Thunderbird remakes that I see on the road in a variety of cool colors.

I wouldn't turn down any decent car. That way I could give it to Taylor so he wouldn't have to use mine all the time.

My '69 Burnt-orange Comaro was my dream car. I had it for less than a year and then had to trade it in for a big green panel truck that my husband needed for his business!

I love the pics of the rides. If I were younger, I'd say all they need is a beautiful girl in a bikini standing next to them hawking auto parts while they (the photos) hang on the wall of some mechanic's garage.

But I'm married, so I won't say that.

:)

Cheers.

I like that Thunderbolt--it looks like the new look railroads were going to in the late 30s, trying to look fast. I don't really have a dream car. I just wish my chevy truck got better gas mileage

Those are gorgeous. I saw a 1972 Barracuda with a hemi for sale years ago (maybe late 80s). I wanted it SO bad!

I am so jealous of PI!
I have always wanted a Triumph Spitfire.
One of the first fellows I dated had one. After we broke up I knew I missed that car more than I missed him.

That 1941 Chrysler Thunderbolt looks like something out of a Dick Tracy comic strip!!

And that '51 Buick LeSabre looks like it was inspired by the alien spaceships in War of the Worlds! Or maybe it was the inspiration for them!

My dream car is a WWII era Willys Jeep. Don't ask me why. It's just whenever I see one I want it.

I loved almost all of those 50s cars that came in two colors. My favorite was a 59 Ford Skyliner my dad owned. (That's the one where the hardtop folded up into the trunk and became a convertible. It was white and turquoise.

I think they are starting to be so old as to look new, like science fiction.
