Pix, Quotes and a Plus

More flowers from the Jim Valvano Gala in Pinehurst tonight. I made this large arrangement in the corner of a very tall stairwell. The container is about 7 feet off the floor, so the arrangement is 11-12 feet tall and about 4 feet wide. It uses bamboo, red heliconia, green goddess calla lilies, orange unique roses, lime green Fuji mums, monstera leaves and other greens.

One of the 57 centerpieces we provided. The linens were sage green, hot orange and hot pink. Some of the tables had bright gold striped overlays.

"Orange Unique" roses, used on cocktail tables.

Serious sport has nothing to do with fair play. It is bound up with hatred, jealousy, boastfulness, disregard of all rules and sadistic pleasure in witnessing violence. In other words, it is war minus the shooting.

George Orwell, writer (1903-1950)

GO HERE!! You'll thank me for it.

Tomatoes and oregano make it Italian; wine and tarragon make it French. Sour cream makes it Russian; lemon and cinnamon make it Greek. Soy sauce makes it Chinese; garlic makes it good.

THANKS, Bud!! But remember, my boss, plus another designer worked as well as 2-3 other people who helped us. I wish you had come and said hello!

Thank you for your very kind comment on my most recent post. I was not aware that your were aware of my circumstances. Please count yourself among those "...family, friends and other folks..." who prayed for us. I really am a blessed man. Thank you.

I liked Alice's comment about cooking. May I add, someone to COOK it makes it all better!

And smokes alive, are you talented! I love seeing the photos of your flower arrangements.

I have tried to put them together before, but there is nothing like a pro to make it look easy, and beautiful, all at the same time!

Judy, I love that first arrangement.
How do I get one for my wife in honor of her first day as a professor?

Cheers.

Judy,

Your centerpieces are so beautiful.

I have a question for you. Maybe others would also like to know the answer.

"What do you do with those centerpieces when the affair is over?'

I know you need your containers and vases back. Most of them are more valuable than the flowers.

How and when do you get them back ?

How on earth did you reach the tall one?
Orwell got it wrong - what about the Olympian spirit?

Hi Judy: I saw Bud today and he said he'd seen your creations. I am not a golfer and don't go the Pinehurst Hotel much but I can imagine it too.
When you're not too busy let me know and I'll get Bud to come with us for lunch. He's a sweetheart and you two would have a lot in common...would it be possible to include Mr. Kenju??

Nancy, thanks for asking a very important question. We went back to Pinehurst this morning, packed up everything and brought it back to the shop. We took all the arrangements apart, and what we could salvage, we used to make about 50 small arrangements for the volunteer thank you party, which will be held Monday evening. After that, they will be given to the Flower Shuttle, which makes new arrangements and takes them to shut ins and nursing homes.

You are right about the containers; they were cleaned up and stored for the next use. All the moss was saved, too, and put into the cooler. We always save as much as we possibly can.

Pat, I stood on a chair to do that arrangement, but I should have had a ladder!

I LOVE the first arrangement. It has such a elegant but eccentric feel to it. The vase is beautiful too.

And the orange roses? Almost creamsicle-like. Beautiful.
