I have always had a lot of liquids to drink every day, even when I was a kid. (No, I am not diabetic.) Offer me coffee, and I'll likely drink 5-6 cups in one sitting, if you have enough. Iced tea or water? I can down 8-10 glasses with lunch, and recently, back home for my reunion, I did just that.

My hostess and I and three of my classmates were sitting outside at Soho at the Capitol Market in Charleston. Every time the waiter came by the table my glass needed to be filled, and he willingly obliged me, at least 10 times. At the final pass before the bill was tendered, he asked if I wanted more tea, and I said no. He answered....."Well, I'm glad, because you are just going to float out of here!!" I was more amused than piqued with his forwardness. I suppose he thought that the restaurant lost money on me that day......LOL. If you ever go there to eat, have the 10" Marguerita Pizza. It is so good you'll eat the whole thing! I did.

Remember my fleas? They aren't going away, despite my most stringent measures, like spraying the carpets and vacuuming every other day, changing bed linen every 3-4 days, washing blankets and throws. I have become a (not so) lean, mean flea killing machine. I sit down at the computer and within seconds, I feel the familiar sting on my ankles. Reaching down, I pluck the flea from my leg and run down the hall to the bathroom, where the commode awaits. I keep a small amount of bleach in that toilet and it kills the fleas instantly. You can all say.....EWWWWWW now......I know you want to. Desperate times require desperate measures. The one bright spot is all the exercise I am getting while I run to the bathroom.

Tomorrow, I am going to call the pest control people, as well as the vet's office again. It seems obvious now that current flea meds are not effective anymore. The vet told me they might not be, since fleas seem to be developing an immunity to them. Fleas (and ticks and all other vermin) are proliferating in this heat and since we had a warm winter, they didn't get killed off as usual. I am praying for a hard freeze or two this coming winter, so maybe they won't be as bad next summer.

Sometimes I just can't quench my thirst no matter how much water I drink. I hate the taste of chlorine in water though and would rather go thirsty if that's the choice.

Reunions are in the air.

I'm having a similar issue with spiders. I don't know what it is this summer but the spiders are going out of control. I'm spraying them but they seem to find their way back....same issue with mega large size grasshoppers too.

I keep calling them locusts.

Thanks for the visit!

Remember my fleas?
I can't think of anything on earth that would make me write that in a post Judy!!!

I always thought that if you had a dog or a cat that had fleas, they fleas would stay on the pet because it's warmer than you are, and therefore would stay off of you.

I remember when Angel had fleas once. I felt a flea on me, but before I could get it, it had jumped off of me again. Must not have liked the flavor!

Maybe the fleas are becoming less discriminating these days... or you need to get your hot flashes under control ;)

I would think you'd be running to the bathroom not only for the fleas but for all that tea!

We were lucky. None of our pets ever had fleas. BUT - when I went to work for the Township, where the public was in and out all day, we had fleas there, and I carried a few home. They are awful things!

Farrago, thanks for thinking I am still of an age to have hot flashes!

Judy,

Two fleas are going out for the evening and one flea says to the other.

"Shall we walk or take the dog?"

I'm with you on the liquids. I drink 4- 16.9 oz bottles of water and 2 cups of coffee on my way to work every morning.

Those standing in the hallway know to move when I pull into the parking lot.

I drink additional water/coffee when I get there...

Good luck with the fleas. It's a difficult problem to curb once it gets started. Blech.

Also, I'm with you. I go through gallons of water a day. I will have a cup of coffee each day, but then nothing but water the rest of the day (I worry about calories in everything else! Silly, huh?)

The only way I've found to control the fleas (not get rid of them, mind you) is to keep the pets in non-carpeted rooms, and then vacuum a ton of times a week. Also flea baths, sprays, and drops are a must.

I hate fleas. They require way too much maintenance.

Wow! That's a lot of liquid. Perhaps you should go to Oktoberfest with my Max instead of me.

Boy, you're bladder is in better shape than mine. If I drank that much liquid when I was out in public I would want to make sure in advance that I knew where the ladies room was cause I would be making rapid dashes there very shortly.

My son brought his dog to visit me once and the dog's passengers stayed for two years. Those fleas really loved me.

No fleas thankfully in our forest for some reason....ticks for sure though. Moles on the other hand are trying to force us out of the entire yard.....development continues with mole condos, manufactured homes, a few mobiles and it looks like a senior center too.

I am not a big drinker of anything....makes for lots of runs to the ladies room.

Oh my, the fleas. That is too bad. I hope you're able to get rid of them. There's nothing worse!

I drink lots too. I don't think I've had that many refills at one sitting though, LOL.

Judy: you might find restaurants here not so willing to fill you up. That sounds rude but you know what I mean. Your talking of fleas makes me appreciate our cooler climate. Hope they go away soon

I love to drink water and tea, too!

Oh! I hate fleas and ticks! I think the only solutions is a good disinfestation. Good luck!

I use the flea medicine on my cats and I sprayed my house with the Raid flea killer. I've had some, but not crazy. Also, vacuuming will make your flea problem worse as vibration causes the eggs to hatch.

As a server, I don't mind refilling glasses. I know when certain people come in that they will drain all the soda from the machine so I make a pitcher just for them (and whoever else has that drink.) That's we West Virginians, being forward as always.

Do your pets not take the flea medicine ?
My dog had the pills that work like flea birth control pills.
The dog takes the medication, the flea bites the dog and then the flea becomes sterle.
Voila --no more new fleas.
Worked for us.

We bought a house from a couple who had owned a Husky dog - dog full of fleas! I was extremely allergic to their bites - long story short, we had to use "bombs" a few days apart to kill all the hatching ones, too. i was the only one bitten of the 4 of us.

I picked up fleas once while I was in Ecuador. I hated every minute of it and had a lot of trouble getting rid of it (or was it them)?
Anyway, they must have been nationalist fleas, because as soon as we left Ecuador, they left me! They must have wanted to stic to their country! ;)
