And Miles to Go.....

See below to learn who these women are!***

I drove 698 miles, round trip.

It was worth every minute and every mile and all the costly gasoline! The 50th high school reunion was not the only highlight of the weekend either. A very big highlight was meeting (in alphabetical order) Blonde Goddess, Buzzardbilly, and Evil Twin's Wife, and seeing Inanna again, and introducing her to the others. You've already heard me say how much I love meeting other bloggers - but meeting with these four was a treat! All of them are smart, sassy, funny in the extreme and very bright (not to mention attractive and bosomy!) You'd be doing yourself a favor to check them out, if you haven't already. Keep in mind that their language and subject matter is sometimes R-rated, so if that offends you, don't go. (***Buzzardbilly was not included in the photo, since she prefers to remain anonymous.)

My reunion proved to be a great deal of fun; I saw a woman whom I hadn't seen since graduation. She taught me how to dance the jitterbug in the 8th grade, and I've always been grateful and had such fond memories of her. Why she has never attended a reunion before was a puzzle, since she only lives 12 miles from the old school. She sort of hurt my feelings when I asked her that and she answered that she really had no desire to see anyone again, but she thought it best to attend now. She admitted that she'll probably not attend the 55th, assuming we have one. That makes me sad - for her.

We had a tour of our old school, which was turned into a middle school in the late 1980's. It's cliche to talk about how your old home and school look small in comparison to what you remember about them, but it's true! I had not been back to the school since graduation and the hallways looked very small to me. The current assistant principal opened any classroom we wanted to see, we had brunch in the cafeteria and a memorial service in the auditorium for the 95 classmates who have died since 1958. I was glad I went; the service was gratifying. We had a large class - 447 people. About a third of the remaining classmates came to this reunion, which is a pretty good percentage, I think. Our schools integrated in our junior year, but only two of our African-American students have attended previously, and none were present this time.

On the way I saw two license plates which tickled my fancy:

UP2NOGD

and

JMPN4JOY

It occurred to me that maybe you can be jumpn4joy because you're up2nogd!!

Glad you had fun, Judy!!!!! Sounds like the weekend was awesome and that you had a great time! I am glad for you.

I'm one of those people who didn't fit in in high school so I don't go to reunions. I went to a couple and still didn't fit in so I won't attend another.

I think Joy at Joy of Six needs that license plate!

That sounds like a great time. I wasn't in the popular crowd in high school, but I find now that the playing ground is very level, and we all enjoy each other. I love the reunions that I've been too. I have my 50th next year.

Those of us who live in Bradenton get together once every three months, and we always have a great time. I'm so glad you went.

Your blogging friends look reallyh neat too. I'm glad you got to meet them.

You know, I didn't know the middle school (old high school) was still open... You'd think I would since the Evil Twin graduated from there also (class of '77).

I had such a great time meeting you (finally!) and was so excited we met Inanna too - such a strange coincidence, and I plan on blogging about that as well. I look like a dork in that picture, but I think Blonde Goddess was pinching my butt! :-0

Glad you enjoyed the reunion. But don't be sad for the one who didn't want to attend. I've never attended mine either, and don't want to. Even if I thought those I might really want to see again might be there, I doubt I'd go. People change so much over the years. They often are not the people you remember - and really want to remember, as they were then. It can be disappointing. I think I'd rather cherish my memories and not be disillusioned. Of course, if you've kept in touch and know for sure who they are today, that's different.

698 miles? Well worth it!

I'm surprised the universe can hold all the awesome that must have been circulating around the blogger's lunch table. What FUN!

I've only gone to one of my school reunions. The 20th.
Either they aren't having them any longer or they don't know my current address because I haven't heard from them since.

I will agree that meeting them in person is a grand experience and to the fact that Blonde Goddess has wandering hands ;)

I went to my 40th reunion last year and it was a lot of fun. I still live in my hometown so I see a lot of my former classmates from time to time.

Oh, I'm jealous.
I need an IRL meet.
If all goes well, I'll be in Chicago in September and meet up with women from a message board I've posted on for 10 + years.

What fun! I'm glad you enjoyed your reunion and got to meet up with FOUR blog buddies!!!!
It's great that you reconnected with your friend from back in the 8th grade. Hopefully, she will change her mind and attend the next reunion.
Those blog buddies are pretty ladies, and I forgot to say how pretty you looked in the other photo you posted. Lovely ladies all!!
I'm sure they were all very happy to meet you!!
One of these days, I hope to meet you also, too, as well!

:-)

Don't be hurt that one of your old classmates doesn't wish to go to reunions (except for the 50th, which I think is a requirement, or something). I didn't go to my 10th, even though I was in town. And I am still trying to decide if I will attend my 20th (which is still a few years away, but getting closer every day). It's not that I hated everybody I went to school yet, or feel like I haven't accomplished great things with my life and am ashamed... it's that I didn't particularly enjoy every aspect of my highschool year (just a year at this school, which is probably the real issue... I wasn't there long enough to really connect with anybody). Maybe your acquaintance had a rough time of it, and your experience with her was the one bright spot, but not enough to make up for all the unpleasantness. Or something.

At any rate, her lack of desire had nothing to do with you, I'm sure.
