Signs, Quotes and Definitions

Shephard sent the sign above today. Little did he know I had this post ready to go, and his sign was so good I just had to add it!!

(my motto, above)

*********

grammatolatry (gram-uh-TOL-uh-tree)

The worship of words: regard for the letter while ignoring the spirit of something.

"The worship of words is more pernicious than the worship of images. Grammatolatry is the worst species of idolatry."
By Robert Dale Owen; The Debatable Land Between This World And the Next; Trubner and Co; 1871.

*********

There are many causes that I am prepared to die for but no causes that I am prepared to kill for.
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (1869-1948)

*********

catachresis (kat-uh-KREE-sis)

The misuse of words.

*********

parapraxis (par-uh-PRAK-sis)

A slip of the tongue (or pen) that reveals the unconscious mind.

NOTE: I won't be able to comment much over the next three days. We are attending a family wedding, and my time will be taken up with merriment, I hope. I'll miss you.

The bear sign is hysterical!

Have fun at the wedding - always a good time. Yay for cake!

Love the words. This has been a very good week for them, hasn't it?

Isn't this what blogs are all about: "parapraxis (par-uh-PRAK-sis) A slip of the tongue (or pen) that reveals the unconscious mind."

Have fun and hurry back!

I love that first sign-I'd like that on my office door. Have a good wedding, as its a family wedding, does it mean you want have to work with flowers, but get to sit back and enjoy?

A timely post, saved a fortune not buying Pepper Spray and called the whole trip off.---merriment at a wedding?---sounds like an oxymoron.

Can't decide between the bear sign and the motto! I think I'm going to adopt the latter as my motto!
