Friday night, we had lots of thunder storms and I had to shut down the computer - or risk another burn out like I had 2 years ago.

I had worked three straight days in a flower shop and I was exhausted, as usual. I sat down in my recliner at 7pm, intending to catch a quick nap and come upstairs at 7:30 to blog. I woke up at 11:30, to a chorus of thunder and lightning. I ran upstairs as soon as I could and barely had time to check email before there came a rumble of thunder so loud it scared me and I turned off the computer. There was nothing else to do but go to bed and read, since no TV programs beckoned and any chores I might have needed to do held no interest for me at all. Believe it or not, I was worried about not visiting my usual haunts. The day felt unfinished somehow.....LOL.

I cannot imagine what I did "B.C." (before computers.) It will soon be ten years since my son gave me an old computer and some rudimentary directions on how to use it. I recall hearing that I clicked on "start" to start and also when I wanted to shut down - and it made NO sense at all. But I plugged along at it; surfing the web and checking the meager email back then (my kids took pity on me and wrote me just so I'd have email to read). In late 2004, I discovered blogs, quite by accident, and the new blogger was born soon after. I know I've written about this time and again, but what wonders you have given me! I am forever grateful.

:-) My BC time came when I was 8 years old :-) (or 7 - backtracking on years ...)

It was a BBC Micro Model B. Been playing with computers ever since.

Michele sent me :-)

As I watched my mom becoming increasingly housebound and isolated, I realized that computers will offer wonderful opportunities to remain involved in the world as we age. She never could get the hang of them, so thank heavens for learning how to turn them on and off while we still have the resilient brains to take in new information. Can't imagine life without them.

p.s. Old people seem to have trouble learning how to use canes as well. Maybe we should attend cane classes while still fully ambulatory!

I love visiting your blog Judy to read your insights, jokes, and to inhale your beautiful pictures of your flowers.....

Blogging is such fun......and has become an important part of my daily life. I found this week when I was too busy to post anything or to visit other blogger friends, that I was a bit lost.

Enjoy your weekend....

I feel just like you do Judy.

I just made my weekly post today, funny, I don't know just how I'm going to say what I want to but eventually it comes to me. I get a lot of satisfaction after I have completed my post.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, no one interrupes me and I get my point across.

I got my first computer about ten years ago, and I had not realized how long it had been until your post. man, time flies. I did not find out about blogs until my daughter-in-law started one two years ago, and I haven't been the same since. I truly care about all my new friends, and still can't believe you can get so close to people without seeing them.

Hi Judy. Following you home from Michele's to reflect on this amazing little community that seems to have magically materialized in the few short years since we all began blogging.

You've got me thinking: I honestly can't imagine what life would be like with this little meta world of ours. These connections mean a lot to me, and have helped me navigate my way through some pretty major life transitions since I started sharing little bits and pieces online in 2004.

It's been a very cool, welcome and treasured evolution.

I'd feel all unfinished if I couldn't check all my regular haunts as well. I'm really addicted...

The cartoon is priceless. I love it. Blogging has opened up a whole new world for me too. I treasure the friends made through it.

I was away from my computer, with no TV for almost three weeks! I read six books, and my husband and I had very fun conversations, I walked a couple of hours a day, I had tons of ideas....

The first thing I did when I got home was sit down at the computer. (My husband was busy searching for the remote.)

Very funny cartoon. he he
I've only been reading blogs for four months and I'm hooked! I'd been stuck in dial-up for ten years, it was too slow to load blogs. My new service has opened up a whole new world and I'm loving everything about it...although I've been a little freaky when I haven't been able to get online a couple of times. I wish I could get my widowed mom to sign on, she's dug in her heels and refuses to take part.

Hi there! Here from Michele's! I don't know what I would do without my computer. We got my mom one shortly before my brother died from cancer 10 yrs. ago because he knew that once he was gone she would never leave the house for quite awhile. So, we got her one, found an online group of moms that lost their children and it was a Godsend for her. She's still actively involved with that group and the moms get together once a year for a reunion and are the best of friends. I don't know what would have happened to my mom without it.

I have to laugh.....my son gave me a quick lesson too....Maw, just try it. The worst that can happen is you'll get kicked off and you just start al over again!

I want to learn how to do the trick where you scroll over a lined out or highlighted word and the real meaning shows up...someday.

Oh I so agree Judy....The Miracke of Blogging is awesome...The great people one meets--Like You----what a great gift!

I truly do not know jow I would mabage all the other things I do with my Computer---Being oretty much a "shut-in" I do EVERYTHING on line! The probably would have carted me off to the Loony Bin by now, if I did not have a computer!

And isn't it weird when there is a power outage or in your case A Heavy Duty Thunderstorm, and the computer is not part of that equation...! (I do get a lot of other things done, I must say...lol)
