Wedding Flowers

The Maid of Honor's bouquet. At the request of the bride, I used: three varieties of red roses (Opium, Kardinal and Black Magic), orange/yellow alstromeria, pink bouvardia (it looks white here), mauve wax flower and bupleurum (green).

The bride's bouquet; mostly Kardinal roses with white bouvardia.

Two of the five bridesmaid's bouquets. They were like the Maid of Honor's, but smaller. The girls all wore red dresses.

This was a very small wedding; all I did were the "people" flowers: bouquets, boutonnieres and corsages. It took place in a small town in the next county. I had not been there before and I was looking forward to it; having been told it was an older home which had been restored to former glory - and perfect for weddings. Hogwash!

It was quite possibly the tackiest place I've ever been, and believe me, I have seen a few in my 26 years in the business. I had viewed photos in brochures and magazines, and it appears to be far from the street and very stately. In "person", it is only about 25 feet from the sidewalk and what was classic many years ago is now a bit shabby except for the charming front porch (all but the silk arch over the door.)

It is owned by a woman who loves to do her own decorating - with silk flowers and vines, and fabrics, and bows and rosettes and feathers and poufs and ruffles! I don't object to silk flowers, as long as they are of good quality and used sparingly. This place defines excess! I bet you want to see photos, don't you?

Tomorrow.

Would love to see the photos (snicker).

My dear friend L had a shortlived but interesting career as a flower arranger once. The owner of the store taught her and being smart and creative, she was a natural at it. She had many interesting jobs and is now a math teacher. L's sister has been doing flowers for about 25 years. She did the flowers for my wedding in 1985. She now teaches flower arranging to adults with mental illness and loves it.

Judy,

Your remark about the photos not showing the REAL condition of the house reminds me of the pictures the photographers used to take of houses for the Multiple Listing book when I was in Real Estate.

They would hang upside down from trees in order to get a picture of the place that didn't include the neighbors which were "Jack's Python Farm" and "Smashy's Used Auto Parts". The house would look beautiful and you would never guess that the driveway was so steep you needed a lift ticket to get up to the front door.

I'm anxious to see your photos tomorrow. I know they will be gems.

The bride's and bridesmaid's flowers are gorgeous. You do splendid work and should be proud of yourself...
