Odds and Ends & an Award

More old flowers. Would you believe these hydrangeas are 18 days old? And they are not dried, they are still fresh. These were bought from the wholesaler on January 16th, used in the wedding on the 19th, picked up from the club on the 20th and they have been here in my kitchen ever since. There is no preservative in the water, but I have re-cut the stems each day and changed the water. All the other wedding flowers were donated to the Flower Shuttle for redistribution to people in hospitals and nursing homes. I suspect they are long gone by now.

One of my cigar boxes. I have had this one since sometime in the 70's and it has held my children's crayons ever since. New ones are added as needed, of course. Nowadays, my grandchildren prefer markers and chalk, so the crayons languish in the box most of the time.

A dusty stack of wooden cigar boxes - awaiting contents - next to a bubble bowl half-full of matchbooks, most of which you saw before on Just Ask Judy.
If you want to see the rest of the matchbooks, search on that blog for 'matchless memorabilia'.
=================================
When I awoke this morning, the first thing I saw on the computer was an award from Diane Mandy of Martinis for Two.

It is the "Make My Day" award - and I think that is one of the nicest I've had! Thanks, Diane, I hope we continue to make each other's day for years to come. Instead of passing it on to any set number of people, I'm giving it to all of you who stop here, read and comment. You truly do make my days - and you deserve an award for it!!

The boxes are wonderful! It is hard to find someone who has continued with something long enough to really have a collection:)

I love old boxes! I've got an old tapioca pudding crate at work that someone gave me at a yard sale. Your collection is much nicer though :)

Those flowers look like they are fresh from the plant! Gorgeous :)

I love old boxes too and have some of my own I love the pic of the box of crayons. It is so vibrant and colourful. I just want to dive in and play with them!

Congratulations on the award. It is a lovely one to get and well deserved! Having not been around much in the last week or two I don't think I'm deserving of it.

You make the day of everyone who visits you as well, Judy. Not ever have I come away from your site feeling better than I did when I first clicked on the link. Thanks for always being an inspiration.

Like Courtney, I know people who make purses out of cigar boxes. Have you ever seen a cigar box guitar? They are pretty cool too and easy to make. And you can play them.

I can see keeping crayons in them. Even embroidery threads, etc.

You inspired me to get around to arranging a bunch of flowers that husband bought me the other day. I can make a little bouquet go very far. We now have to red arrangements against our black and white candles in a silver candelabra. I also have a purple and yellow flower arrangement for one of the rooms but I am waiting for the bottom of the vase to be completely dry...I hate cup rings. I will try to take photos tomorrow. :-)

Michele sent me. I am listening to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers doing "American Girl" at the Super Bowl.

Judy I have also noticed that my grandchildren also prefer markers and colored pens to crayons. I have a large box of crayons too but they seem to choose the markers.
I love your photos. They make your posts sing. :)
