Norman Rockwell 7

Somehow, Dolores and Eddie don't look much like a gaiety dance team in this pic, do they? I'm thinking that they are tired from all their days on the road; just like I am tired from all my days of decorating last week. Fourty-two hours in eight days, all of it on my feet. It's no wonder that I spent all day today in my nightgown and robe, and snoozed at every opportunity.

I have a black trunk almost exactly like this green one, but mine doesn't have writing on it (luckily). I use mine as a coffee table in my den, and sometimes I put it at the foot of the Victorian bed in the guest room. It is perfect for holding a suitcase. I have another one that was also my mom's, but it has a roll or barrel top. Trunks like that aren't so versatile. I'd like to take the top off it and use it as a coffee table too - but what would I use for a top? Maybe a sheet of glass? Or plywood, plainted to match? what do you think?

Sounds wonderful....if the trunk left would take weight.

I'd use glass as probably the trunk has a beautiful interior. I have Mom's old roll topped trunk and it's very fancy inside.

I'd leave it alone...those trunks are rare and it being your mom's means so much more.

This post reminds me of my camel back trunk that I bought from the Salvation Army for $5.00 when I was about 15. I never refurbished it and it sits in my brother's basement to this day. Must get it shipped out to my house, but have no idea where I will put it!

I'm a sentimental sort and I'd leave the trunk intact.Especially since it belonged to your mom.
I do think you would be able to jazz it up with your creativity. You have such a beautiful vision for decorating, I have no doubt you can come up with something spectacular.

Thanks again for Norman Rockwell. This is one picture that I had never see. It is hilarious.
Do not -- I repeat-- get rid of your trunk. You'd be sorry one day if you did. I am saying this, because I did get rid of a lot of stuff when I moved and am so sorry I ever did.

On a totally different note, which has nothing to do with your blog, I didn't like the term other, that blogger.com used, to let you comment on a blog, but I hate the pseudonym thing that is trying to force you to have a blogger account to have your blog address in there.
I think blogger is behaving like Microsoft, and let me tell you, that is not a compliment ;)

We've had several trunks that we inherited over the years and used them for various tables. All 3 girls loved them so we gave the trunks to them - we really needed the room at the time LOL!

I love old trunks. My great aunt has one in her basement from when she came to the U.S. from Italy in the early 1930s.

Hope you stay off your feet for a few days. That's a lot of (beautiful) work you just completed!

I'd leave the roll top, put that puppy on it's SIDE ,and showcase something cool in it, like a vast collection of fine bourbon.

But maybe that's just me. :)

We have an old trunk in the pole building, but the weather has taken its toll....should have been more careful. If you alter the trunk the value goes way down....not that you will sell it, but you never know!!! Those rainy day....

Sheet of Glass...! Because you could have some treasures inside the Trunk that peolle could see...!

Poor Dolores and Eddie....It is that they have No Money! She has her ourse open...and is looking very glum as she looks into it, and HIS Pocket is out of his pants...Very Very Empty!
Things are not going too well for these two kids...! Ahhhh Show Business....Back in the day, Acts like that were stranded out of town because the Producers would run out of money....That is why the Actors Union was and is so important. That cannot happen any more, because a Producer or Production, must put up a certain amount of money to cover contingencies just like that, BEFORE they even can hire one performer....! So, I find this Rockwell really quite wonderful...It is such a comment on the vageries of "going On The Road"....

I must say Judy, I was thinking about you and the HOURS, AND HOURS AND HOURS you have been putting in for days and days.....I bet you really needed this day of just trying to rest up! Is there more "decorating" that will be happening...I mean these BIG jobs? Or can you get a bit of a chance to recover, now...? I hope it's just your own house that will be needing Decoratioons....lol!

We had an old trunk when I was a child that got packed with bed linen and towels and sent on ahead for our summer holidays. It was a second-hand trunk and my dad covered it with a revolting green vinyl ... yuck!

I use a blue and wood slatted trunk as my coffee table infront of my couch. Downstairs I have a much bigger one for the same purpose (its full of xmas decorations) The top was all scratched up and ripped so I hodge podged it with a cool tissue paper that matched. To protect it, I had a piece of plexi glass cut to measure to put ontop. I had a cheap little pedistal table so I did same hodgepodge on the top of it to match the big trunk top and used as a side table. So for a few bucks, I have a matching set lol. As for your curved trunk top, I wouldn't remove it personally...would take the value away. Would be better served in a bedroom if possible.
