Odds and Ends + Quotes of note

You may remember that I sent you here last week to read about 1-800-flowers' lack of respect for their clients. Here's another instance of it. Click to enlarge. This article appears in the latest issue of AARP Magazine, on P. 17.

#######
In every work of genius we recognize our own rejected thoughts: they come back to us with a certain alienated majesty.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, writer and philosopher (1803-1882)
#######

Happiness is a fulfillment which cannot be sought as a selfish goal, but comes with the forgetting of self.

and:

Be a factor in the happiness of others. The only true happiness is that which never remains with oneself, but as it is experienced, is passed on to others.

N. Sri Ram, Theosophist, Madras India 1956

#######

For over a year, we have had a drought, with little to no rain; a deficit of over nine inches. Our lakes and rivers are at nearly all-time lows. But now, it has been raining, and blessedly so, for three days. I hope it continues for a week or more - whatever it takes to get our water levels back to normal or above. We are so grateful for whatever we get.

Hi kenju! I'm here via Michele today so hello from her and hello from me...

Seems as if the drought is world-wide!! Most of Australia is dought stricken which is pretty scary. Prices have rocketed through the roof in regards to fresh produce, milk, meat etc., Lucky for me though, in regards to water, I live in Far North Queensland whcih is the tropic area of the country and we have soooooo much water it isn't funny!

Oh goodness yes. I'm enjoying the fact that the heels of bread I left out to dry are as soggy as ever. Blessed RAIN!!

You know, that's one little perk of being a stay at home mom (with a pit bull personality). When dealing with customer service, why, YES, I DO have ALL day and I'm willing to go around and around with them until it's resolved. It shouldn't have to be that way, but for some companies, it's the norm.... Bah.

I'm so glad you're getting rain. It has been raining here too for the last two days.

I hope that company gets enough complaints that they lift their standards a little.
I love the Emerson quote, I have saved it. Michele and I say hi!

We have also had rain for the last three days. I'm glad. The 1-800 flowers article is hilarious by the way.

Michele sent me.

Hi, Michele sent me. Loved your quotes. I love to collect them.

Sorry you are having drought problems. It's pretty common all over.

Shall I do a rain dance? If that don't work, I'll pray for rain for you and everyone else who needs it.

I generally don't like confrontation, but sometimes matching wits with the dim at a call center is its own reward. I had an experience with a couple of dolts at Sunglass Hut/Watch Station a few years back. They blew my order of a watch for my wife THREE TIMES. I never received a response to the nasty letter I sent about it.

Oh how I wish we woild get some rain here....Happy for you Judy that you ARE having rain...I too, hope it continues for a week....!

That 1-800-flowers is really just horrendous. Never, never, never will I use them, No Matter What!

Yey! For the rain! I couldn't believe the downpour when I landed in town this week. It's been so long, I forgot what it looked like.

Amen on the rain and the water! We spent 4 months with only 2 days with rain showers! Those 2 days where like spitting on fire. I am so happy to see this rain come. It is like a monsoon here! :)

We got a lot of rain that we desperately needed as well. I really liked the quote about rejected thoughts.

Same here Judy, but we're happy to have it. The leaves are falling early though.
