Knife Poor No More

Are you, like me, the owner of many knives, none of which is sharp enough to cut butter? I'm NOT anymore!

When Tiff was here Saturday for the cooking marathon, she wisely brought a Santoku knife from Target with her. I admired it for the lime green color of the handle, blade and all, and it turned out to be a sharp wonder of a blade. So this morning, after dropping mr. kenju off at therapy, I hied myself to Target. They didn't have the lime green knife (:-/) but they did have the regular steel and black handle knives of that type for $19.99. I know that most of you would not consider that expensive for a good carbon steel knife with a full tang blade, but I love a bargain, and that wasn't it!

Imagine my surprise when I rounded the end cap and saw a display of pink products in honor of the National Breast Cancer Foundation. I was amazed to see the very same knife, only with a pink handle and regular steel blade - for, get this - $4.95!!

Now, you may recall reading that I hate pink with a fiery passion -but to be able to buy a $20 knife for $5 - I can overlook my hatred of all things pink. You can get the bargain too, along with a lot of other pink kitchen gadgets, as long as you go there before the end of October. I usually don't do commercials....LOL....but this is an excellent bargain for a very worthy cause!

You can read all about those knives here.

I have three full sets of knives, though none have pink handles, courtesy of Amazon. I love knives and love bargains--I try to stay away from the kitchen section of Amazon as a result. Oddly enough though, my favorite knife is a $15 forged aluminum one I got at Wal-mart 8 years ago. Congrats on joining the fold of sharp cheap knife owners, Judy.

WHen the CP and his parents moved back from Japan they lived with us for a while. My SIL is in the restaraunt business, and among the possesisions of theirs that mingled with ours was a wonderful professional chef's knife. I used to joke that when they moved out they were leaving the CP and the knife. They took the baby, but gifted me with a knife of my own when they did leave.

As most of the women I know (in RL) are avid watchers of FBI files & Forensic detective type programmes (comically nicknamed how to kill your husband and get away with it), it really worries me when women start talking about knives. Even more so when the aforementioned knife was a bargain.

Everyone needs one good sharp knife.

Never mind the colour so long as it works.

LOL. I don't like pink either! What a good deal for a good cause.

A pink handle knife will insure your husband won't walk away with it!

I despise pink as well, but I may have made an exception for a price like that.

Woohoo!! I would so totally have an all-pink kitchen, because nobody would expect it of me. Here's hoping your new knife lasts a good long time and sees you through the preparation of many a wonderful meal.

I got myself a spiffy new "spoonula" from the pink ribbon display at the grocery store :) (I too despise pink)

But I could see getting this one!

I was like that...no sharp knives. But this weekend, I bought a few before the move. I'm sorry I missed the pink one.

My family got me a great set of Henckles knives last year. I was using the ones we got as wedding presents in 1958!

And how is hubby doing? I'm going to scroll back into your posts right now and see if you talk about it.

Rats!I was just at Target today and didn't see knives, even tho I was in the kitchen area (looking for a pastry blender - apparently, they don't carry them).

I hate pink too, but I buy lots of it for Sissy - she looks really cute in it.

The Santoku knife is great. We have it in our forged knife collection in the P. Chef. It isn't cheap though, but it has a lifetime warranty.

I hear ya. I'd buy the cheaper knife no matter the color. I still miss the knives we almost bought at a demonstration. We were all set to until we learned we couldn't buy it directly from the woman giving the demonstration but had to go wait in a long line.

I have to check that out--On Line! It would be great if I could get that through the Internet...(Not able to go there....)
Isn't it funny how one can have lots and LOTS of knives...And Nit ONE is really a good sharp knife! Thanks for the 'heads up' Judy.

A well sharpened knife is essential in the kitchen. I bought my daughter a nice set of chef's knives for Christmas at the kitchen outlet store. Hers are old and dull. The fact that the money went for a good cause is even better!
