Travelling Angels

An email gem.....

Two traveling angels stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy family. The family was rude and refused to let the angels stay in the mansion's guest room. Instead the angels were given a small space in the cold basement. As they made their bed on the hard floor, the older angel saw a hole in the wall and repaired it. When the younger angel asked why, the older angel replied, 'Things aren't always what they seem.'

The next night the pair came to rest at the house of a very poor, but very hospitable farmer and his wife. After sharing what little food they had the couple let the angels sleep in their bed where they could have a good night's rest. When the sun came up the next morning the angels found the farmer and his wife in tears. Their only cow, whose milk had been their sole income, lay dead in the field. The younger angel was infuriated and asked the older angel how could you have let this happen? The first man had everything, yet you helped him, she accused. The second family had little but was willing to share everything, and you let the cow die.

'Things aren't always what they seem,' the older angel replied. 'When we stayed in the basement of the mansion, I noticed there was gold stored in that hole in the wall. Since the owner was so obsessed with greed and unwilling to share his good fortune, I sealed the wall so he wouldn't find it.' 'Then last night as we slept in the farmers bed, the angel of death came for his wife. I gave him the cow instead. Things aren't always what they seem'.

Sometimes that is exactly what happens when things don't turn out the way they should. If you have faith, you just need to trust that every outcome is always to your advantage. You just might not know it until some time later..

Poignant and pertinent for me right now - thanks! :)

BTW - re: your deck post - sometimes you can turn the boards over and get a better walking surface, replacing only the worst ones. It may give you several more years. Worked great for us on the Seattle house.

Gee Judy, I sure hope that is really true. And I hope it will be revealed soon, if indeed it is true.

BTW: How is Mr. Kemju doing? I hope he is recovering well and that his therapy is going really really good!

It's a beautiful story! I haven't had my car for the past 10 days to repair a minor dent (my own fault!) and I told myself, someone/something wanted me to stay away from a major accident... I get it back tomorrow and I will drive carefully!

Hi Judy......great message and story. Sometimes we don't know until much later. The only problem is that there are times when i get impatient waiting for some kind of clue as to why..... :)

So true...the older I get the more I realize what I don't know. Now I try to do the "next right thing" in my every day life and leave the rest alone. (Ut actually works!)

I get impatient too. Waiting. Still, a beautiful story and one to remember throughout the day. When I start tapping my toes, particularly.

That is so true. We often don't see the end result or the good until we've gone on down the road a bit.

Hard to remember for those of us impatient to have it all, right NOW.

Thanks for the reminder!

Wonderful story. Reminds me of a saying I think of often: "God answers all prayers. Sometimes, the answer is 'no'."

Judy, this story could use some blog angels. Kay, Please circulate the current information on my blog (http://www.granan10.blogspot.com)
to everyone you know. Regardless of where he was last seen in the United States, he could end up anywhere of be known anywhere and if he can be found, this precious little girl could be found and found alive. Blogging is fun but it could also prove helpful in saving a child.

I love that little story.
I always try to remember things are rarely what they seem. And as you know, I'm a fan of looking for the buried treasure even if it takes a while to understand.

I've always loved this parable. Human nature is often such that we jump to conclusions based on what we see. But it's the story between the lines that we often miss.

Thank you for reminding me that I need to skip that beat and believe in something that may not always be initially apparent. Faith is a powerful thing.

Dropped by from Michele's today. I've been thinking about you and you husband every day.
