Quotes of Note Plus an Update

It is by the goodness of God that in our country we have those three unspeakably precious things: freedom of speech, freedom of conscience, and the prudence never to practice either of them.

Mark Twain, author and humorist (1835-1910)

#######

I tried to find Him on the Christian cross, but He was not there; I went to the temple of the Hindus and to the old pagodas, but I could not find a trace of Him anywhere. I searched on the mountains and in the valleys, but neither in the heights nor in the depths was I able to find Him. I went tothe Kaaba in Mecca, but He was not there either. I questioned the scholars and philosophers, but He was beyond their understanding. I then looked into my heart, and it was there where He dwelled that I saw Him; He was nowhere else to be found.

Jalaluddin Rumi, poet and mystic (1207-1273)

#######

"What I wanted to do was slap him down a bit with wit and words. Grammar and vocabulary as a weapon. But what kind of world would it be if we all took every opportunity presented to us to assault the weak?

Charles Frazier, in Thirteen Moons
#######

"Be not the slave of your own past - plunge into the sublime seas, dive deep, and swim far, so you shall come back with self-respect, with new power, with an advanced experience, that shall explain and overlook the old."

Ralph Waldo Emerson

#######
I got to the hospital later than usual tonight. A bride, who was bringing me some pottery bowls for her wedding reception flowers was supposed to arrive at 5:30, but didn't come until 6pm. Traffic was horrible after that and it was still so hot I nearly passed out. It was officially 101* today, and it was our 74th straight day of 90* or higher temps (according to the local forecasters on ABC). Who among you wants to say there is no such thing as global warming? On second thought, if you think that - don't tell me - please!

Mr. roommate, The Cornflake King, goes home tomorrow, and I am betting that both he and mr. kenju will have withdrawal pains. They have made plans to get together for lunch or dinner and they want to go back to the rehab hospital in about 3 months to visit their nurses again. We all will shout the nurses' praises from the highest rooftops; they couldn't have been nicer!

Mr. kenju is looking forward to coming home for several hours tomorrow, for the in-home evaluation. Our cats will be happy to see him, and then puzzled when he leaves again. I will be busy tomorrow morning and Wednesday, getting the guest room ready. It is filled with Victorian furniture and antiques, and everything that is breakable or might be in the way has to be removed before Mr. kenju comes home. He is not usually a bull in a china shop, but with a walker, all bets are off!

I hope ALL goes well tomorow, dear Judy...! It sounds like you are busier than a bee....So much going on and in that HEAT...! I couldn't believe the amount of days you have had 90 PLUS temps....
Well, my dear, try to stay cool...if you can!

Any chance you might parcel up a little of the heat and send it over to Northern Ireland.
Today at 11.15am it is 14°C, Mostly Cloudy. Wind: SW at 8 km/h
Humidity: 94%.

Apart from March and April, when we usually have our worst winter weather this year we had a heatwave, we have had the dullest dark cool wet days right through June and July.

Glad Mr Kenju is coming home soon. I wish you both well on this new journey together.

Good luck with the coming home rearranging. I know that you're very happy that he will soon be home to stay.

My husband has Parkinson's Disease and has balance problems. You have to have clear paths for sure.

It's hard to give up stuff, but once you almost lose a PERSON, then stuff looks unimportant.

I've lifted some of those quotes for future reference. Thanks!

I still say 'rather too hot than too cold'.

I hope things continue to improve.

Here from Michele again ;)

There are many beneficial things for everyone to learn in rehab. You will find yourself picking up some good habits that will keep your from injury as well as helping Mr. Kenju. Hope the home visit goes well and the cats adjust to his disappearance again. Never fear, he shall return.

You have been so busy...and in all that heat...I am hoping you get some slower times ahead..so u can take it more easy..it will be enough to care for mr.kenju once he is home ...
Take care Judy...

More progress - that's good. Judy - it maybe the last thing on your mind at present but there is a film which - when you come up for air - you must see. I think you'll love it. It's Atonement from the book by Ian McEwan.
I've just written about it. Something to look forward to.
