Guess What I Have??

A new WaterPik hand-held shower head and flexible hose, courtesy of our good friend and handy-dandy handiman who happens to be Anna's dad! This model was recommended in a comment yesterday by the Evil Twin's Wife, and I will probably be forever thankful to her and for the installer! We are going to give it a trial run tonight, and if we like it, I may buy another one for the master bathroom. Later this week, we will get a new shower curtain rod (permanent instead of tension) and some grab bars. We should be ready for anything then! Anna's dad will also install some railings by the stairs in the garage, which will make it easier for mr. kenju to get into the house.

********

You might not be so complimentary of me and how I am handling the stress if you had been a fly on the wall of my guest room this morning at 6:00. My bedroom phone rang at 6am. It was mr. kenju on his cell phone, informing me that his new Norelco shaver had broken apart into a "zillion" pieces - and he did NOTHING to cause it. Now, I ask you to imagine my reaction to that while coming out of a deep sleep?

I can assure you it wasn't pretty. It was LOUD and LONG. Somehow I just didn't believe that the shaver had jumped off the table into the floor. Was it attempting suicide rather than to do what it was intended to do? That explanation made just about as much sense as mr. kenju's.

Fortunately, later in the afternoon I called the Norelco service information number and - wonder of wonders - a guy named Jeremy talked me through it, and I put it back together and it worked!! There is a God! If you need further evidence, look at Shephard, who sent me several wonderful recipes today, and look at all of you who sent advice and commiserated with me or offered words of encouragement. Your comments and your blog posts provide me with a way of taking care of myself - to sit here and rest in my chair and read what you have to say - is heartening, and makes me hopeful (plus you are not fattening, or immoral or expensive!!) What more do I need?!

I hope that you also have people coming in to help through the week like visiting nurses or home health aids or what have you.
When my Dad needed my help I thought I could do everything and never realized how desperate I was for rest until the home health aid came in and for a full 45 minutes I was able to just sit in a chair and doze. You are in my prayers. Keep that wonderful sense of humor and take every offer of help that strolls by.

I'm glad you got your shower thing installed. (and so quickly too). Hope you like it.

I had to snicker a little bit about the shaver and the 6 am call! Thank goodness Norelco could help you out.

Hang in there. I love the shower head. I'm so glad you have folks who come and in and help you out.

When you have time, click on a blog in my sidebar, A Mountain Too High. It gives me a lot to think about.

kenju thanks for stopping by my blog over the weekend.

I'm sorry to hear about your difficulties, but you sure have kept your sense of humor and lively perspective....what a special person.

Keep that chin up and know you and yours are in my prayers.

Your outburst was not unexpected since you have been under so much stress for so long. And then you bravely took the bull by the horns and called Norelco and ended up fixing the darn shaver.

I have read that stroke patients, while recovering, can revert back to childlike behavior which is what Mr K did.

You needed that outburst to release the tension.

(((((HUGS)))))))))

I love hand held showers and can never understand why they are not that common in a lot of countries. You are going to love it.
You won't forget to get some rest, will you? ;)

That shower head looks great! I am not nice when I come out of a deep sleep...unless maybe it is an emergency. Well, the kamikaze shaver was one for mr kenju...
Again: wishing you loads of patience and keep up your sense of humor!

I wonder why your comment section doesn't show avatars...

oo-oh! Here is what you need: http://cgi.ebay.com/5-Curved-Crescent-Brushed-Nickel-Shower-Curtain-Rod_W0QQitemZ120160996409QQihZ002QQcategoryZ71281QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Okay, sorry that is so long but you can see the picture and then find it at lowe's or home depot. These curved rods are permanent but they give you more elbow room in the shower by far. That is, if you're putting the curtain across a tub enclosure. I had one put in the new bathroom in Florida after seeing them in W hotels and I love it- much more spacious.

Hang in there is right-much love, V

We used to have a hand held shower head. I forget why we still don't. I miss it. Great for getting all the shampoo out of my hair.

As for the Norelco...IT WAS 6 am !!. no wonder you were a bit out of out when the phone rang. If you are like me your heart started beating in your throat!

I take exception to your comments. I am immoral.

And expensive!

And when you wrote of the Norelco service technician, I thought you were going to say that he told you that, yes, indeed, their shavers had a habit of spontaneously breaking into a million pieces!

Sounds like you're getting acclimated to the care-giving life. I had it for quite a few years and can understand the stress ... but you are keeping a sense of humor too and that is a necessity !

My sister just bought one of those shower heads for my house. I don't have it installed yet, but I'm glad to have a recommendation!

It's tough being a caregiver. Don't let yourself get burned out. Ask for help!

Oh Judy, I have caught up a bit....I sure wish I could be there to help you. I do know what you are going thru....I'v seen Steve thru 3 hip surgeries...but they eventually resolve and he is self sufficinet again. It is a lot to juggle...and I am just like you with cooking and meal planning. All you can do is do the task at hand. After all of Steve's surgeries all I could say was I knew more about him than I ever wanted to.

I assure you, Judy, I am NOT fat free!!
:-)
That shower nozzle is dandy! I hope it passes testing with flying colors.
Hooray for you for fixing Mr. Kenju's shaver.
It's just shameful that the shaver jumped off the counter like that - all on its own.

I still think you are handling everything well. I understand (from past experiences)how hard it is to be a caregiver to someone ill! You're doing GREAT!

Many women over the years have told me how much they love those handheld shower nozzles. A few even told me that they don't need men anymore. I wonder what they mean?

Oh I'm thinking amongst this group, surely there must be someone fattening and expensive.
Happy to help, Judy. :)
