EXCUSE ME FOR SHOUTING!

I don't want to hear about illegal aliens anymore!

I exchange emails nearly every day with a group of long-standing friends, most of whom were my high-school or college classmates. Some of them (most) are retired, and like a lot of retired people (men in particular), they are always looking for something to get riled up about. Why is that?

The latest harangues seem to feature illegal aliens in some way; how they are robbing the US of money, etc.

Whether I agree or disagree with their issues is not my point here. I say: Get a life, people. Worry about something else, or if you must concentrate all your efforts on people who come over the border, don't tell me about it! I am sick of reading the hate and bigotry and lack of compassion that is rampant in these emails. The people I get them from didn't write them - they just forward them to everyone they know, without checking to see if they are true or not.

The reason I am ranting about them here is that I can't tell these guys how I feel - because I don't want to hurt their feelings. Telling you about it makes me feel a little better. Hope you don't mind.

Do your friends send you things you'd rather not receive? How do you handle it? I just delete and say nothing - except here - of course.

***********

I saw the DVD "Because I Said So", with Diane Keaton, Mandy Moore, Lauren Graham, Piper Perabo, and Stephen Collins, as Diane's love interest. Mr. kenju said, "Not only is this a chick-flick, it is a chick-flick with a meddling mother!", as he exited the room to go upstairs to his TV.

He was right. It is that, and what's more - it was also easy to figure out the plot. Maybe it is because I am older now (and have seen a LOT of movies over the years) but nearly every movie I have seen lately has been predictable. I usually like Diane Keaton very much, and she was okay in the film, but I thought she carried the flustered, scattered, meddling and controlling mom too far, and it got to be cloying.

There was one person who made the film worthwhile for me - and that was Gabriel Macht, who plays Mandy's love interest. He is cute and his character is adorable. His smile is great. I am glad I saw the movie because it introduced me to him, but I'm glad I didn't pay to see it in a theater.

I usually love Diane Keaton movies. I don't want to talk about Illegal Aliens either because I think they are the least of our problems, especially since Bush took office. Micheleling.

Diane Keaton was "on" in that movie. One of the few times she annoyed me. The email thing....I sent a "global" email hitting all of the friends that send political stuff and told them all that I got a virus from one of them and to please not send me anymore "chain" emails. Stopped it pronto. I did it nicely and a few were very worried they would get a virus too!!!

I'm with you on the email business. They accomplish nothing other than to raise blood pressure. I've come right out and told friends not to send them. When dire warnings and other "urban legends" appear in in inbox, I check them out with snopes.com. If they are false, the first time I reply to the sender; the second time I reply to all.

I agree about the e-mails. I delete and move on.

I didn't see that movie, but tonight I watched "Shall We Dance?" with Richard Gere, Jennifer Lopez, and Susan Sarandon. It really got to me in the end.

Rant on--I'm with you, I often get emails from all sides of the political spectrum from friends who think I agree with them--instead of responding, I ignore 'em. Next time they get me down, I may take your advice and blog about 'em (but they may be reading my blog!)

I'm afraid I do what you do too... delete and ignore.

I get a lot of the fast-forward kind of emails, too. I think I'm due for a pile of bad luck because I don't forward them on to my best friends (since that's usually who sent them!)

i have a relative that sends me every mass forwarded email on the internet. I used to go ro www.snopes.com, look it up, and send the page that declared it a hoax to everyone she had emailed. But it didn't seem to stop her, so now I just ignore them.

Judy,
I agree with you about the hate and prejudiced cutting forwarding emails cutting down any group, aliens, whatever.

These aliens came to America for the same reason their ancestors did - for a better life.

And what even urps me even more - the people that send those things to me either assume I feel the same as they do, or they know how I feel and think this will change my mind.... AArrgggg!

Do I ever hear you about the political emails (which in my case always seem to come from my right-leaning relatives, sent to me to rile me up because I am on the way other end of the political spectrum). I delete immediately, in most cases, but when I'm feeling particularly fiesty (which is often lately) I write back with my side of things.

I liked Because I Said So, but like you, I thought Diane Keaton was OTT in this role. Did love Gabriel for the same reasons you did. Such a cutie-pie.

Those e-mails are getting out of hand to say the least. I delete a lot of them, and I'm tired of hearing the same old stuff too Judy.

I delete the unwanted e-mails but I don't say anything to the sender because I like to think it is the tought what counts: they thought of me...
I usually enjoy Diane Keaton's films, but I haven't seen that one.

I'm in agreement with you regarding many of the illegal aliens in this country, Judy. For every one person milking the system there's dozens working hard in thankless low paying jobs. I suspect that all the attention being paid to these poor people is just a diversion from the tax breaks given to the rich! ;-)

I only read the top half of your post today. Good for you!!! I'm sick of it, too. And anyway, I'm on the side of the Mexican people who come over here for the sole purpose of providing a little more for their families back home.

I'm not sure it counts as shouting if you actually apologize before you do it.

Say it loud sister, you are't the only one sick of it.

That movie is way down on my list of must see movies. I still haven't seen The Queen and some others I want to see.

Those email buddies of yours need to send their frustrations and complaints to their congressmen/women and quite bellyaching day and night over the issue. I have emailed my concerns to my senators and representative and that's it. No need to get my panties in a wad over and over and over again.
I agree with you that receiving a bunch of forwarded rants is not productive or enjoyable, even if you agree with them.

I agree about the e-mail. I just delete it.

Rant on!! I veer away from most extreme political blogs too...though will take a peek from time to time

I feel the same as you....and if i do get one of those silly chain emails....depending on the time of the month??? I have told them to stop sending the darn things, but most of the time when my estrogen levels seem to be fine, I just delete and move on.

I'm with you about illegal aliens! We are hearing a lot of those bigot speeches over here! That's partly how our new president made it to presidency :(
