Eclipse

"Clipsie" is very hard to photograph, due to her very black saturated color fur. Here, her eyes were heavy-lidded, but they are big and beautifully golden. I had to wash out the carpet in this pic in order to highlight her. This is a spot she doesn't often get to lie because her sister is usually here beside me at the computer.

I was out in the back yard cutting gardenias for a vase when I heard a bird chirping in a way that sounded menacing. I looked around to see Storm stalking a blue-bird (possibly a mockingbird) that was down on the ground in the ivy vines, with what looked like a damaged wing. His/her mate was squawking away from a nearby tree. The poor bird was trying to hop to safety, but not getting very far in the process. I took the cat back into the house, and around the corner came Eclipse, to see what all the commotion was about. By that time, the bird had hopped off the deck into the woods, so I presume she will be safe. It's a good thing my cats don't get out much; they have little practice at catching birds (but one of them did bring me a mouse last week)!

Your cat looks a lot like mine. She enjoys sitting in our window looking out at the birds and making weird mewing sounds. She's an indoor cat though and only escapes on rare occasions. And only then for a minute or so. We have plenty of birds... but I don't know if she's quick enough! LOL

Have fun on your vacation! Michele sent me tonight....

Have a wonderful time.

Beautiful cat.

I know that 'unwired' feeling when away somewhere. I was like that a couple of weeks ago in Cornwall. It can be quite an interesting break. Its amazing how dependent we have all become on instant 'bandwidth'!

Here today via Michele's.

Gotcha! I'm not a cat lover but Clipsie looks fine and you made a better job of snapping a black cat than I did.
Now! Arnica is an age old remedy for bruising and sprains and can be applied locally or taken by mouth. You must have it in the States. All my friends swear by it. Don't just take my word for it Judy - Google it.

The shadows makes Eclipse's face look almost fox-like.

Your Eclipse does indeed look like Sarah's Tucker. His fur is growing back in over his shaved area and his stitches, and he seems to be back to his old self.

Its been a long while since i have wondered over here to you blog, being a cat person and having 10 of my own, your cat is beautiful. Ours are all indoor cats so they have never done anything but watch the birds from inside. And then makeing a clicking noise, always wondered what that means?

Clipsie is darling! I think that hubting instinct never leaves them---even when they are indoor cats as Sweetie is....How good though that you saved the day by bringing Clipsie back in the house.

Drake is hard to photograph...she looks like a black pretzel...she sits in the napper and is carefully watching the birds and I know when one is close because her tail will flick just the tiniest bit. Beach weather, huh? It is 58 and cloudy here.....no beach for us. Will you post while you are gone?

Eclipse is a great name for a black cat. I don't know what photo editing program you use, but you should be able to bring up the detail in the shadow areas (the cat) without washing out the carpet. Though the photo looks fine to me anyway. Michele says hi.

What a lovely looking cat!

It is possible that the 'injured wing' on the bird was not injured at all. I have seen birds doing that to lure cats away from their nest. They hop and drag for a while, then suddenly recover and fly away. It's pretty clever, and a terrible disappointment for the cat.

Her fur looks so silky. :)
Mine love to stalk things (from inside).

Ours wouldn't know what to do with a mouse if they could catch one. Eclipse is beautiful and looks a lot like the two black cats my cousin had. I still have more pictures to post of them.

Mom was re-admitted to the hospital as her leg was very swollen and a bit red. She didn't have fever and her leg swelled this way with both her hip surgery on the same side and the knee on the other side. No deep vein thrombosis. They have taken blood cultures and the surgeon is going to look at it in the morning, early. There isn't any drainage at the incision so not sure what is going on.... Actually, mine is swollen in a similar manner, but to a lesser degree from the fall. That deep bruising can be hard to deal with. This knee is turning out to be harder than the last.
