E-E-E-E-E-Y-OUCH!! (update in the comments)
Don't do what I did! Our neighborhood women had a pot-luck dinner tonight. I picked up my next-door neighbor and headed to the party site with my roaster/crock-pot full of pork tenderloin with cherry/cranberry sauce (It was a big hit!) As we entered the house, going through the den into her kitchen, I hit my knuckle on the door jamb. It hurt a little, but I really thought I had just grazed it. Within five minutes, a lump the size of a small egg had formed on the back of my hand, and it hurt like the dickens! I didn't want to make a big deal over it, so I went out into the backyard where other people were gathering. I grabbed some ice out of the bucket where drinks were cooling and poured myself a glass of wine, then held the ice on my left hand until it melted. I did that three times more, but as you can see, it did little good.
It is not as noticeable in the photo, but the swelling over the bruise is raised up about 1/4th+ inch above the rest of the hand. When I got home, I held an ice pack on it for 20 minutes, but I think it was too late to do much good. Maybe it will be better in the morning. Ya' think?

Owie! I fell in my sisters rosebush last year, and it was by far the most stupid way to hurt oneself. Keep an eye on it, hopefully it heals quick!
Oh, dear, Kenju. It looks like it really hurts. Are you sure it is just a bruise and that something isn't broken?
POOR YOU! I hope by now the swelling is down and the bruise is fading and you are feeling altogether better!
In the meantime, I don't think you'd better do any housework. None whatsoever.
So sorry Judy....hope it mends soon!
Ouch! I truly hope it is better in the morning...
Oh my dear Judy...How terrible! Gee, I hope it is better in the morning too....Don't you just hate when something like this happens?
The good thing is that your nails look so pretty! It's like having on your new, matching underwear when you're in an accident.
Ouch! Hope you're feeling better!
Oh Judy! That looks so painful. From the looks of it, I thought you were going to say your husband ran over your hand with his car! I can't believe you just banged your knuckle.
I hope it's not too painful today, you poor dear.
Ouch! That looks bad but putting ice on it is exactly the right thing. The fact that the brusing has come out so quickly should hopefully mean it will mend quickly too!
Can you bend your fingers?
UPDATE at 8:30 am:
It is still very swollen, and I can bend my fingers, but it really hurts at the knuckle when I move.
Marty: Thanks, I just had a manicure last Thurs, otherwise I probably would not have posted a pic! LOL
Kristi: I once DID have a car run over my hands and it didn't hurt nearly as much as this!
Oh my goodness big owie.
That looks bad! Hope it gets better soon.
Glad Michele sent me here!
I loved your comment Judy....and I think a color can look soft, especially when it's attached to the Doves.(lol) I dearly hope your hand gets better very very soon.
I suspect that nothing is broken, Judy. I think it's a hematoma from the look of the picture. I can see that there's a lot of blood collected under the skin of your hand. It'll hurt tho.
Damn, that's a nasty whack! I bruise up like that, depending on which medication(s) I'm on. ;-)
Ooh, that looks like you broke a blood vessel. I did that once, and my hand swelled up like a balloon.
I'm with Ute and Trina - hematoma, all the say. The good news is that it'll take even LONGER for this to heal that a bruise.....and so you'll be able to take LOTS of pictures and keep us apprised of your progress.
Of course, that might only be ME who wants to see it.
How is it today???
Ouch!! I hope it feels better today. And...I want some of that pork tenderloin.
Oh Judy...that does look like it hurts! I hope by today you are doing better and your hand is healing. By the way, I do like you manicure...
Wow that looks painful.
That looks painful!
Maybe by the tiime you read this the swelling will have gone down and you'll be left with a dark, painless bruise.
Oh Judy! It looks like you had a great bruise! I can feel your pain!
I hope you will be fine soon! Sorry my belated comment about this.
