The useful word:
'comploration', and it means crying and weeping together. The example given was something like this....."Is your mother coming over this Christmas, for the usual comploration?". I am fairly certain that word will be useful for some of you!

The Rant: Yesterday while driving from the lab to get some food, I passed a guy in a wheelchair, who had stationed himself in the dividing lane of a major road, with a sign asking for donations. He was missing one leg, and he pushed a walker in front of his chair, which had a large American flag attached, and a supply of water and food.
I had just about decided to pull over and toss some bucks his way. I am as sympathetic as anyone to those who have lost life or limb in the service of the country. But then, I got close enough to see his sign. I have mentioned on my blog before how it bothers me to see/hear certain words in public. He was holding a cardboard sign on which he had printed ** "F*ck Iraq". So, tell me, how is a parent who has his/her children in the car and gets close enough for his/her children to read that sign explain it to them. Most people try hard to teach their children not to use that word (at least not in public) and here is a guy carrying a sign with it!
He didn't get any of my money, and as I turned the corner and passed near him, he raised his fists in the air and screamed at the top of his lungs because no one was dropping any donations into his pot.
Maybe he should change the way he is asking for them.
** Some would say that has been done already.

A second rant: I have had a lot of trouble today getting into the comments of people who have Haloscan. So if I usually visit your blog, and you didn't get a comment from me - now you know why.

Comploration is a wondeful word Judy! It's what all the Ni-Vanuatu do when someone dies. They all come together and cry over the body. I'll definitely get to use it!
Michele sent me today!
I was worried...you post every day. I put up some pics for you....no comment from you but blogger can be testy sometimes I know. Good word...I was crying last night...I could have used a friend to cry with me but I settled for Violet.
Comploration--I have never in all my years heard that word before! How amazing is that? I will, I'm sure, be able to use it at some point, if I remember it...(lol)...
LOVE those pictures of the Animals, though I must say I have always found it disturbing to see animals dressed up in clothing...Especially cats...I think because it looks terribly confining, you know? And Cats seem to me to be an animal that should be able to be free of restrictive clothing....But these old photographs ARE very very cute!
Amazing collection of old animal photos. Thanks, Judy!
I know that is wrong to use the F*** word in public.
But I just can't help myself, I admire people with b***s like that.
I agree with you and I wouldn't have parted with my money either. He is obviously angry... maybe he was born that way (I think some people are), but to get one's needs met, one must learn how to ask. There is a place for such commentary, in the middle of the street isn't it.
Michele sent me,
Mike
I just perked up when I saw this post. I LOVE the new word and plan to use it at the first opportunity!
My post today is based on a comploration of comments from yesterday's post, in which a certain cat began to harass and represent himself under false circumstances.
Good word Judy, comploration, not the other one, is there really a difference between crying and weeping?
I think it's just great that we can abuse Haloscan instead of Blogger for a change.
I was pleased to see the answer to your question about temperature too.
those photos are too cute. It's hard to fathom cats being dressed like that and posing though.
I never heard comploration before. It's an interesting word, and as far as the other guy goes, uh-uh.
Comploration is a great word and thank you for bringing it to my attention.
who knows why someone would use that kind of profanity on a sign. I agree that he must be very angry and perhaps the use of the f***word is like a safety valve that lets out some of the anger before he does something permanently destructive to himself or others.
The 'F' word is very overused in society today. I think some people use it because they are unable to express themselves properly or just reach a point in their life where they are angry at everything. I feel kinda sorry for him, losing a leg must make you pretty angry, but I do agree with your point about it's public use too.
That was a very angry person with many issues...maybe some of them just. But I agree Judy....he needs to change his presentation...especially if he's asking people for money.
Sorry about losing your post...that is SOOOOO maddening.
Ah yes...
As similar but different experience. A seemingly homeless and reportedly former veteran was begging in the street in the large city closest to my home. He had all his limbs. The profanity-free sign he held read that he would work for food. A friend and local business owner offered to pay him $25 to shovel the short sidewalk in front of his business. The bum replied that he'd make more than that just standing there with his sign, so why should he WORK for the cash?? Makes you wonder, doesn't it?
You made up for the lost post with a great one today.
Comploration sounds like a testing firm.
Those animals look cute, but they also looked stuffed. I hope they were alive!!
That fellow seems to be dealing with anger issues.
His approach to receive money isn't serving him very well.
One thought... (and I agree about that sign)... if the child sees what kind of person uses that word that way, it might point out how not to behave.
I love comploration! (I collect words as well). Thanks!
The animal photos were cute.
Michele sent me this time,

I love that word.......comploration and will try to integrate it into conversation tomorrow....see how it goes over.
As for the angry man.......his actions and words perpetuate his rage..... I would've done the same.
I love a new word! Enjoyed the post.
The person begging? Needs a bit of education about approaching people, I'd say!
Comploration is an awesome word. I'm going to use it, and often, because, well, it fits certain people in my family to a "T."
As for the signage, even though I agree with him whole-heartedly on his message, and sympathize with his situation, I agree with you about changing his sign. That said, I probably would have tossed him some money, because I can't imagine the horrors he likely endured (probably affecting his mind as well as his body) in a war we never should have entered in the first place.
A very good and well deserved rant! I agree and I'm sure Michele agrees too since I'm here morning ambassador.
*oh, what a great word! I love collecting new words...
*what great photos!
*hm... yeah too bad some people just don't realize the way they express themselves may very well deprive them of what they really want out of life...
I'm kinda getting sick of Haloscan myself. When I'm King of the World, it's gonna get fixed, or else!
But I thought crying was weeping?
The animal photos give me a sense of delight mixed with repulsion, but I guess it's no different than the woman photographer fammous today for her babies in fruit and flower scenes etc.
I think someone should tell the vet about his mixed message.
