We also went to the NC History Museum, which is just across a plaza from the Nature Museum. The top photo is a Model T Ford.

This "juke box" allowed anyone to call up and play (by touching the keyboard on the computer screen) any number of songs, from popular hits to classical pieces such as "Ode to Joy". That is my just turned 11 year-old grandaughter; her twin brother is attending the Star Wars Convention in Los Angeles this weekend. He was taken there by his aunt, my other daughter, who is probably the best aunt any kids ever had! I hope to have photos from that to show you soon.
This is a room set-up to look like an early kitchen. I am sure many of you will see things you remember!
This is an exhibit of patent medicines from around and shortly after the turn of the century.
Here is my favorite exhibit: an old soda fountain. It was in a room set up to look like an early drug store. It reminded me of one in my home town when I was a child, and brings back so many memories. every time I had to go to the dentist when I was little, my mom would treat me to a visit to Scott's Drug Store for a milkshake. It isn't any wonder that I have good memories of it!
Below is a showcase from the drug store, showing hair and personal products of the time.
The three of us had been to both museums many times, but there is always something new to see. It is a perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon (especially since admission is free then)!

I've always thought it odd that Americans bought sodas at a drug store. Wouldn't you think that you'd buy drugs at a drug store? As for the early kitchen, I certainly remember cook books (remember books?) - and lemons - and Colman's mustard.

I've just read back to your last post too to get the whole picture so to speak adn it sounds like a fabulous day out. I love museums, they are a great place to while away some time!
I have seen the soda fountains in films on TV, but being from the UK I have never seen one myself. My mum tells me we had something similar but it wasn't called a drug store.

I LOVE the drugstore. My mother worked behind the counter at a drug store in Bradenton. She was there all the time I was growing up. I have so many fond memories of those days.
We really are from the same era...I love the juke box too. I need to post more of my pictures from the historical park.
