Quotes of Note and a Pretty Pic

This gorgeous azalea sits at the end of a driveway I pass by everyday. It has looked glorious like this for more than three weeks, and I've been meaning to show it to you. It is a great way to start the day - looking at this beauty!

We have in fact, two kinds of morality, side by side: one which we preach, but do not practice, and another which we practice, but seldom preach.

Bertrand Russell, philosopher, mathematician, author, Nobel laureate(1872-1970)

There are two things to aim at in life; first to get what you want, and after that to enjoy it. Only the wisest of mankind achieve the second.

Logan Pearsall Smith, essayist (1865-1946)

I don't trust a man who uses the word evil eighteen times in ten minutes. If you're half evil, nothing soothes you more than to think the person you are opposed to is totally evil.

Norman Mailer, author (1923- )

True remorse is never just a regret over consequences; it is a regret over motive.

Mignon McLaughlin, author (1915-)

Almost all our faults are more pardonable than the methods we resort to to hide them.

Which quote do I like best? Norman Mailer's. And your azaleas are stunning!

That azalea is quite a splash of colour!

I quite like Emily Dickinson's saying: "To live is so startling it leaves little time for anything else."

Here today via Michele's - Hiya.

I have never seen an Azalea bush that large. It must be very, very old. It is gorgeous for sure.

And Mignon McLaughlin gets my vote!

I miss azaleas. They were everywhere in Norfolk. They don't grow as well here, although there is a wild variety with a light orange bloom that's pretty.

Pretty! Thanks for sharing the pic, we have tiny little apple blossoms going for us here. No blooms like that until midsummer.

I think the last quote struck me the most. Ow.

Oh to be in the Southeast now that spring is here!
Mignon McLaughlin gets my vote.

I vote for Logan Smith first and the azaleas second....they are lovely. We spotted the first purple violets yesterday on our walk...I'll take a pic and post it later.

After the Mel Gibson and Alec Baldwin fiascos I am voitng for M.M.'s remorse quote.

What a gorgeous azaelea. They are so pretty in the Carolinas. I'm not sure why they are so magnificent there, but they are!

As for the quotes, I liked them all, but Bertrand Russell's reminds me of our current administration a bit too much, so I vote for Mignon McLaughlin. Here from Michele today.

LOVELY azaleas!

I like Russel's quote the best.....we have a tendancy to talk the talk and forget to walk it!

I like the Logan Smith quote. Many people want, want, want and when they get, they are still unhappy.

Gorgeous azales!! Here in the northeast the forsythia are finally blooming and the trees have little green buds - and one of these days the grass will turn green.

Mr. Smith's words speak volumes in a world overcome by rampant consumerism. If only more people took the time to heed his wisdom.

Mind you, they're ALL profound in their own unique way. And I'm thankful you've shared these with us.

The first by Bertrand Russell...I like the Mailer quote, too, but....Well in truth, I like them all Judy.

But, the Azeala speaks volumes to me...Gorgeous, Gorgeous, Gorgeous...! What a wonderful thing to behold every day!

BTW: I spoke with Jen Stark today...considering getting a drawing...maybe even two, if I can swing it financially. I just LOVE her work! Thanks Judy, so very much.

Like most I'm voting for the Azalea bush Judy, but here are two quotes I love;

# "I am enclosing two tickets to the first night of my new play; bring a friend.... if you have one." - George Bernard Shaw to Winston Churchill.

# "Cannot possibly attend first night, will attend second... if there is one." - Winston Churchill, in response.

I love the plant but also the trees- a perfect background. BTW I can't reach Michele's - just an advertising site. Is the world going mad?

The azalea is indeed spectacular in color and size.

I'll pick the Bertrand Russell quote about two kinds of morality -- what we preach but don't practice; what we practice but seldom preach.

I like the one by Mailer. Evil, evil, evil, evil, evil.

The azalea's are gorgeous here too. I like the one about true remorse... Too often people are sorry they got caught rather than sorry they did something in the first place.

The great coverup has gotten me in trouble numerous times. Mom was right: admit, apologize, move on. But the governmental use of this method reminds me that we all make mistakes but many don't admit them, apologize and move on. It's always fun however to watch politicians trip over their feet as they run backwards from any trouble they've caused, saying in their best 1st grade voices: It wasn't me...not my fault..he made me do it...."

My vote goes to de La Rochefoucauld.
