On a Very,Very Windy Day in April...

I met a lovely woman blogger from Florida, named Beverly. You can see her blog, Lacoochie Kid at:

http://beverlywhitcomb.blogspot.com/

She was driving to VA to visit her son and his family, which includes one of the cutest little baby girls you'd ever want to see, and I was lucky enough to convince her to stop off in NC long enough to have lunch. I met her at a restaurant just off Rte. 95, and we spent two hours talking. It is always interesting to meet someone new, especially when you feel as though you know them already through their writings.

We agreed that there are other bloggers we'd like very much to meet someday. She has already met Vicki (A Mark on My Wall), for which I am trying hard not to be jealous! We decided we'd one day love to meet Roxanne (Melange), Mamacita (Weekly Scheiss) and Bonnie (Babette's Feast) (all links are in my blogroll). There were a few others, of course, but I won't try to name everyone for fear I'd leave out someone important. I hate to admit this, but I forgot my camera this morning. Beverly had hers though, and a woman at the restaurant snapped a pic of the two of us. You will have to wait until Beverly posts it, to see the two of us (and my newly shortened and gray hair!)

Now, about the wind: I think nearly everyone in the east has had their fill of it in the last two days. I was on the road to meet Beverly this morning when mr. kenju called my cell phone to inform me that we were one pine tree short now, since one had just fallen in the front yard. It was already half dead, so when it fell, it conveniently broke into 4-5 long logs. The same thing happened in the back yard about 6 weeks ago; eventually saving us several hundred dollars, since we don't have to have them cut down. Mr. wind - you have done your job - now go away!!

On another note, there was tragedy and unpeakable horror in Virginia today. I hope we will all pray for the survivors, the deceased and their families. We may never know what precipitated the attacks, but we can pray that nothing like it ever happens again.

It is fun to meet new friends. I had the opportunity to meet bloggers recently and I felt as though I had known them for a long time. The shootings in VA makes me sad. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved.

The Wind, and the Rain, too? Or did that horrific rain pass you by?

This Horror in Virginia is mind boggling...! What is the world coming to? What is our country coming to? Such violence...! It is unfathomable.

You're brave. I haven't met any bloggers yet. :) What a nice affirmation that people are good and kind and worth meeting.

Very cool that you got to meet Beverly! Bet you two had a great time catching up. I have met friends from an internet chat group that I have been part of for over 10 years, that was alot of fun... in some cases.
The Virginia shootings..... Ohhh:(
I don't have enough words for that right now. :(

It was SO good to meet you today. I'm glad you were safe. The wind was horrible coming from Charlottesville to Waynesboro. I listened to the news all the way up the road. So sad, and so senseless. Thanks again for coming. I'll get that photo up. I should have had her take another one a little closer up.

What a nice way to spend an afternoon. What part of VA was she headed to? I'm from there !

My niece is a student at VA Tech, and my heart skipped a beat or seven when I heard the news. I was afraid to call my sister - but in the end, all is well with her - which makes me feel lucky - and horrible for all the rest of the families *not* in my shoes tonight.

I live a few miles away from a blogger friend and would like to meet Lorraine in Seattle and if I ever get to NC I'll let you know. We could compare haircuts.

Sad day in Virginia.

Sorry about the loss of the tree, but the shootings at WVA make the wind seem so very, very minor don't they?

I've met only one blogger, other than family of course. It's great to meet someone you've been reading isn't it?

I haven't met any bloggers...don't know if I ever will. Most are so far from me, and it does take some courage, doesn't it.

I had a chance to meet a blogger who lives in CA when she came to Brazil, it was pure joy. If you or any members of the family ever come down, please let me know! Kenju, thanks for your comments today on the Dutch town, Geraldo commented there too and added some nice info. Have a great day, despite all the shootings... our thoughts and prayers go to those families.

I just love meeting fellow bloggers; I've rarely been disappointed. Yes, you guys have sure had awful weather, and the Virginia Tech thing is so horrible I can't wrap my mind around it.

I have met Bonnie ,Mary(Vast Verandah) and Gene (Old Horsetail Snake) and a couple of other bloggers. I almost met Vicki, but it didn't work out because of our schedules. (she had company and I was in Florida for a gymnastics meet) I love meeting people I only read about on their blogs, and so far every single person has been a delight. It hasn't been uncomfortable at all. I am in despair over the shooting; as a high school teacher with a daughter in college and a high school junior, I am sickened by the violence and disdain for life. Plus, I'm afraid for my kids, and for myself at times. Some kids seem so angry and alienated; I don't know what the answer is.

You got to meet Beverly!!!! She got to meet Vicki!!!! I am sooooo jealous! I hope her trip north wasn't too bad. That wind was really howling and it felt so cold. Even our dog Max wanted nothing to do with the wind the last couple of days.

Yesterday seems like a bad dream. I felt relief that it was not a shooting at William and Mary, but then immediately felt bad about feeling that way. Then I called Nyssa. She said the students at W&M were in shock, so many knew people who went to VT, sisters, brothers and friends. She thought about coming home but I told her that she might be called in to help her own students as RA. Then she heard that one of the victims was an RA... and on the 4th floor of the dorm.

I don't think there is a parent of a college student anywhere that feels really comfortable today. It is too horrible to imagine... I hugged my child by checking on her five times yesterday, twice today. W&M has added additional campus police and put out informational memos for the students.

Spring semester is already stressful, now this. It is not the same world as it was when we went to school.
