Spring Flowers and a Funny Story

I know these photos will not win any awards, but they are the best I could manage today. The first violets. In two weeks, if it stays warm, they will blanket the flower bed and spill over into the grass. That will be the signal for the deer and bunnies. The violets must say, "Come and get me".....because they often vanish overnight!

Redbud tree. I saw hundreds of them this morning, but I had to pull into a store parking lot to get the pic. It was that, or take my life in my hands on the roadside. This is not a particularly pretty one, but it will do til I find another.
The first buds of my only dogwood tree. We used to have three of them, but a blight has claimed two. This one is not situated where it can be seen from inside the house, which is too bad. I loved it when the other two blossomed in the woods behind the house.

Money plant blooms the second year after it is planted. I love the color of the pinkish-purple blooms, but what a mess they make when the "money" is mature. Of course, you have to let it make the money if you want blooms in the next two years! Have to take the bad with the good.

The forsythia at the front corner of our house. I have three bushes, and they all bloom about two weeks apart. This is the last one to bloom. I think it is too bad that they don't hold color like this all summer long; but maybe if they did, we wouldn't appreciate seeing them as much as we do in early spring.

Scroll down to read about the latest guy in the Idiot Annals!

I heard something funny on the radio today, but since I didn't catch all the details, I'll relate just what I heard:

Some guy had been writing hate mail to someone he knew in the third grade (it might have been his teacher), and the authorities couldn't catch him. At one point, this guy left some letters for his mom to mail, and she, noticing that there was no return address, wrote it on for him before mailing them. You can imagine what happened next. Don't you think he will be nominated for the Darwin Awards? I sure do!

He'll be a Darwin nominee if the teacher traces the address back and kills the bugger!

Thanks for the flower pictures, Judy. I noticed a few crocuses poking out of the garden today, and I wondered whether I should grab my camera.

While I mulled, you shot. I'm glad you did; you captured them wonderfully.

Hey, what's wrong with your flower pics Judy? I think they're beautiful. I don't have a digital camera. I'm probably the last relic out there. I find the pictures that I use all over the place. Anyway, I think your pictures really are great.

Oh that poor guy. The grief he must have gone through....all because Mom tried to help him out...oh, that hurts.

I think if you are still writing hate mail to your third grade teacher and your mom is still tampering with your mail- you need to read about the pursuit of happiness in scientific american. HOW did you get a free subscription? I want one...

It's a breath of Spring everytime I come over here! I love it! Violets, blossoms, bunnies- it's all good.

There are some gorgeous redbud at the Durant nature park around Upper Lake. Was there yesterday with the Things, and it was spectacular.

Who knew that you could find yourself in the middle of the woods right there off 540?

The pics are GLORIOUS! You must know that I can smell the violets. I have been searching to see if anything....even weeds...are coming up, but nothing yet so I will dawdle over your pics of spring. Hate mail to a 3rd grade classmate...living with his mother.....she is checking his outgoing mail....his new accomodations will be a bit spartan I would think.

I have forsythia everywhere it seems. Forgive me, Judy, but I hate it. That color makes my eyes twitch and I cannot stand it. Mentally it strikes me like something screaming. You want mine? I'd gladly send you all of it. I am more of a redtips and camelia type gal. The orchard and front yard will become colored in tiny purple violas in the next few weeks. Those I love to see. The vinca that will grow wild - I am so sick of it. I have enough to give everyone a clipping and you wouldn't know we touched it.There is nothing wrong with your photos either. Nice job.

Moms are so good at doing the right thing, arent they. That was a very funny story.

Thanks for the froggie/blueglass link, Judy. Loved it!!

AND.......I love the forsythia. Ours won't be blooming for a while, though the snow is finally on the way out.....remnants left, but it's been warm these past couple of days....well, above freezing.

I cut a bunch of forsythia branches to force them.....and have some in my office here just about ready to bloom. Tomorrow, they will greet me with their yellow splendour.

take care.

Cool pics. I love redbud trees. We have some serious work to do in our yard this year. Dead grass galore. The moss is taking over our whole community. Sometimes I really think I ought to have a moss "lawn" rather than a grass lawn since that's the property's natural bent.
Our daffodils/forsythia/tulips/succulants/lilies/iris are all coming up. Love this time of year.

He certainly was not the brightest crayon in the box. Your flowers on the other hand are gorgeous. Our dogwood haven't started yet... a few more days perhaps.

Beautiful flowers, Judy. Love the forsythia at the front corner of your house. Your house looks very charming, with bricks and wood. I would like to see a photo of your entire house.
