January 1973

They were supposed to be getting dressed. I found them lying in bed, reading books. How could I get mad at them?
Finding a child reading a book is the best hoped for thing ever.

my daughter would stay up hours reading, if she could get away with it.

Is that a Golden Book? My kids all did the same thing...as I did...they all still read like crazy when they should be doing something else....for example my daughter reads on the freeway on her way to work!

I used to let my kids stay up as late as they wanted if they were reading. I stayed up all night once in 5th grade to finish a book about Helen Keller. I'm sure I wasn't alert the next day in school, but I still remember details about Helen Keller.

I found Nooze asleep in bed with a book open next to her.

I plan to buy her a flashlight for Easter...

My oldest (9y.) reads about 400 pages a week, and still finds time to play outside, hope he continues doing so.

I have had those moments as well and they are so endearing!

Such sweet faces.

P.S. What is your favorite color?

My daughter would feel that her reputation would be ruined if caught with a book.

Where did I go wrong?

That is a wonderful sight!

It is a wonderful thing seeing kids read. You would never find me reading when I was a kid. Well, not much anyway. And the weird thing is: I'm about to graduate with an English degree.

I was always reading books as a child. Such adventures to be had!

Do you think that some children just start to feel "nekid" without a book in hand? Perhaps it is the nerd in me coming out... but, I think so. I also think this is a good thing.

I used to carry about 5 books with me everywhere. I was so afraid I'd finish one and not have another one to read!

I bet they heard you coming, and the older one said, "Quick! Grab a book so she'll think we've been reading."

What little darlings!

So, so sweet. Even if they hadn't been reading I would have kissed them and then picked up a book and sat down to read next to them. After all where you were going couldn't have been all that important.
