Ephemera

This one's for Jennifer! (edited below)

This is the program for our church services on the day that my mom and dad joined that church.

Christmas Eve, 1939.

My parents were members here until their deaths, in the 80's and 90's. I was Christened and Confirmed here, and attended until I got into high school and decided I was too cool for church with my parents.

About three years ago, I started attending church again, and I realized how much I had missed having it in my life. Now I am a (semi)regular goer (is that a word?).

I should have remembered to tell you (Anna prompted me), this is the same church that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner's baby Violet was Christened recently.

You have saved the neatest things from your past. That is a lovely poem, one I hadn't seen before.

Are you trying to get all these things into acid free display sleeves so they won't be lost to future generations? I do hope that at least one of your children is interested in preserving this heritage..

My church is the garden now I'm afraid.

Hi Judy, I went back to church after my son was born, when I was already 30! And with the small group meetings we have once a week at home that's how I really developed some close relationships here and also when we lived in the US, that's what really helped me... otherwise I would've felt so lonely!

I'm thinking of doing the same thing!

Let's hope that fire and brimstone don't rain down from the sky.

Nice memory with that program.

I need to start back to church also. Maybe you have inspired me.

Semi regular sounds like a word to me.
These are all the things you miss when your family moves around. I think roots are so important. My hubby was more important so I am a transplant.
Have a wonderful day!

If I decided to start going to church again, I can only attend 3 out of every five weeks.

Wow! That is fabulous! My dad was born in 1938 and Christened in that same church probably around the time you folks were gettin' hitched!

:-)

After reading srp's comment, I looked for the poem, and there it was on the bulletin. It is indeed a lovely poem, tying together Christmas and Easter.

This is the same church of Jennifer Garners family right? Or is that somewhere else? That is neat that you still have that....KEEP IT SAFE!

I love that you have all these things to hold the memories. :)
Ben & Jennifer, huh. That's interesting.

what a great piece of ephemera, it always amazes me what great condition ephemera, antiques, etc can stay in and how some can be totally lost to us.
