Project Black + A History Lesson

There is nothing blacker than my cat, Storm! Not even my rubber shoes. Go to Anna's for more Project Black.

The statue is that of Nathanael Greene, a war hero, and it stands in Greensboro, NC. We saw it when we went there recently for a family get-together. I am ever vigilant for a possible blog post, so out came the camera.

This is the menu from the restaurant that bears his name. If you ever go to Greensboro, I recommend this place. I had fish and chips, and it was soooooo good. My son was sorry that he didn't order it too! Fish is the best thing to order when mr. kenju's present, if you are not in a mood to share. He doesn't eat anything that swims in the sea - except shrimp and lobster - so your fish is safe from his wandering fork.

I'll tell you how bad it can be. Some years ago, mr. kenju was leaving a company with which he had been district manager for 7-8 years. His co-workers decided to throw a party and they reserved a room at a local steak place. As we were being served dinner that night.... just as mr. kenju's meal was set in front of him, 12-14 men came at him with their forks raised, and all of them took a bite from his plate. All of the wives (me included) were laughing so hard! I learned that he had been filching food from their plates for years and this was their way of getting back. It was SO funny (but embarrassing, too!) Wouldn't you think it taught him a lesson? Noooooo, it didn't. So if you are ever sharing a meal in a restaurant with us - order fish!

*********

Thanks to the magic of pre-posting, you'll get new posts for the next few days. I may not get to visit or comment, but I'll be thinking about you!

Wow! That is indeed a black cat! A beautiful black cat.

Your Mr. Kenju must be related to my sister, Jackie. (Maybe it's a "j" thing?) She eats off people's plates all the time.

It's funny...U can remember my father putting his fork into whatever was on my plate, sayimg: "I want to make sure this is alright...!" Oh Yeah! Even as a child I knew that was not exactly true! (lol) I LOVE that Mr. Kemju's reputation precedes him...lol!
I LOVE your Black Cat on your shoes....I remember you mentioning this before Judy...That he loves your shoes... Cats are so fascinating, aren't they?

Judy,
Speaking of General Nathan Greene, the state of Georgia awarded Nathan and his family the Mulberry Plantation near Savannah for the fine war directing he did.
And, after the general died Eli Whitney came along and with the help of his wife's comb, invented the Cotton Gin.
Eli, came along, to apply for the job as teacher on the plantation but the job had already been filled - my one of my g-?-g aunts, Winston Tyson - or so the family verbal folklore says.

How did I know you couldn't stay away from Anna's blog very long? Anyway, that's a nice shot. (I just bought a pair of Croc's the other day. What took me so long? I really like 'em.)

Have a good time on your trip wherever you're going. I wish I had some of those fish and chips.

I'm surprised that you never noticed all the prong marks on the tops of Mr Kenju's hand. That's what I do when someone tries to eat off my plate....Let 'em have it with the fork tines.

Good Restaurant fish and chips is the absolute best- something that I don't make at home and really enjoy. I was a "cod girl" until Abby and I kayaked in Alaska and I discovered there is nothing, NOTHING, that beats a giant plate of fresh halibut fish and chips. And I'm like Mr. Kenju- I need to taste everybody's everything. Drives Rich nuts. But hey! I'll share my food! Safe, fun travels!

As many times as I've been through Greensboro (mostly on I-40), I've never seen that statue... as for Mr. Kenju, does he have many fork scars in his hand where a diligent eater tried to protect his plate by stabbing him with a fork?

Ahhhh, the wandering fork. I will be sure to order fish if I'm ever at a restaurant and Mr. Kenju is within reaching distance. I do not want him to pilfer my food!!

So, now it is Project Black. It will be fun to see all the various photos that bloggers post. Your cat may be the blackest of them all!

Great cat pic! Sorry I haven't been around; busy with family stuff.

I'm LOVING Water for Elephants, though because I've been busy, it's been slow going.

I love that pub! My friend lived across the street and down a block for years, so everytime I'd go see him, that's where we'd go

My dear Mr Kenju, you take your life in your hands (or fork as it be) if you dare to touch my plate of food. I am a fairly giving and sharing person until it comes to food. Must be some horrible experience from my childhood.

I'm going to Anna's to read about the Black Project but I'm pretty sure you've won with your black cat.

That is a very black cat. Cute photo... I loved your story about mr. kenju. My father was a notorious "taster." I enjoyed General Green's contribution to project black too. Fun post.
