It's Always Something...

An oil change and groceries were on my schedule today and when I got home, Mr. kenju met me in the garage and asked me to go under the house and listen for leaks. I walked through the yard with some trepidation; opened the door to the crawl space (which, fortunately, is a walk-in at that point) and heard not one leak but what seemed a deluge (and remember, I'm nearly deaf.) I went into the house saying...."Call Leonard."

Leonard is our plumber. He bonded with us  almost immediately, since he and his wife  are (as I am) originally from the state of West Virginia. We've known him for several years now and he is always at the ready when we have a problem. He came around 6pm and this time, he brought his wife with him. Had I not known he was bringing his wife, I would have thought she was his daughter. This woman looks to be all of about 25 and I found out she has children older than that! She is originally from a town near Huntington, WV, about 60 miles from where I grew up. We enjoyed talking to her while he was under the house. It took him about 2 hours to make the repairs. I don't yet know what the damage was (money-wise) but I'm sure I'll find out tomorrow. I didn't ask Mr. kenju before he went up to bed - because I didn't want to lose sleep over it.

I just had a weird snack. I looked in the fridge for something I could eat quickly. I put a handful of naked pita chips in a bowl and added some leftover  crumbled pepper boursin cheese and threw a handful of blackberries on top. It was so good that I wish I had more!

Oh, no... those are the worst... well, except for the ones that require roto-rooter.

It's always nerve wracking when one hears an unfamiliar noise in the house and it usually means money down the drain.
Leonard should give you a discount for amusing his wife for Two hours.

I think you should submit that to one of those recipe contests and win a prize! Sorry about the plumbing. Our is only a few years old but already appliances are acting older.

You might recall some of my DIYS plumbing stories.... evryone needs their own plumber.

Ugh. We had a "water issue" a few weeks ago and it set us back $800. Like I've said, home ownership can be such a joy! (NOT). I hope your "issue" is much cheaper.

First I am impressed you went into the crawl space. Not a cool place unless you are a spider.
Sure hope the repairs are not need for a second mortgage.
Find out what that lady does to keep so young looking.

Water leaks fill me with dread but I'm glad you have a trusty plumber. They can be worth their weight in gold!

It so helps to be on good terms with a good plumber. You are right...it IS always something.

We should all have folks like Leonard on our speed dial. We've been looking for one we can trust in our neck of the woods - can we borrow Leonard for a bit?

:)

Hope you escaped without too much monetary damage. I know they say owning a home is the fiscally smart thing to do. But when I look over the litany of things that we're constantly paying to fix, sometimes I wonder.

So sorry, water damage is scary. Last week both of my toilets in tandem starting flushing themselves, I've got a good plumber too. Your snack sounds delicious.

We had a pipe break in our slab...ended up with heated flooring. The sleuth couldn't pinpoint the leak, so we had to cut that water line off and replumb our whole downstairs. That was not fun, and it was not cheap.

Because Don was in the building business, he always had someone he could call, and I'm so grateful that I still have them. After Don died, and I needed something done, someone warned me about the people who would take advantage of the "poor widow." Like I said, I was so glad I had names of people I knew.

It is so wonderful to have a Plumber that you know and can count on. Things have changed here in L.A. so much, over the years, that there are only LARGE Plumbing company's now...And you are lucky if you get the same person again. I always ask them to send the same man, but they cannot always do it. I need a "Leonard", badly....lol!

I think that if I ever get married again it will be to a plumber.

Wait now.... Not such a good idea after all.... He would never be home! :(
